Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday stressed on the need for automobile industry's innovation for green alternatives to ensure protection and conservation of environment as well as help in making India self-reliant. KPI Green Energy on Wednesday said it has inked power purchase agreements to supply a total of 15.88 MW wind-solar hybrid power from its projects to six companies. "KPI Green has signed new long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for sale of 15.88 MW (electricity from its) wind-solar hybrid power projects," a BSE filing stated. The companies will be supplied power from the upcoming Wind-Solar Hybrid power project (comprising 16.10MW wind and 10 MW, solar capacity) at Bhungar site in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, under the Gujarat Hybrid Power Policy 2018, it stated.

The government is working on developing electric highways powered by solar energy, that will facilitate the charging of heavy duty trucks and buses, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday. Addressing an event organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Gadkari reiterated that the government wants to develop India's public transport system on electricity. "The government is strongly encouraging solar and wind energy-based charging mechanisms for electric mobility. "We are also working on developing electric highways, which will be powered by solar energy and this will facilitate charging of heavy duty trucks and buses while running," he said. An electric highway generally refers to a road which supplies power to vehicles travelling on it, including through overhead power lines. Foreign lender HSBC on Friday committed Rs 125 crore over the next five years to support green causes like wetland conservation and energy transition projects in India. The lender said in a statement that the measures are is being taken as part of its efforts to limit the impact of climate change. Under the commitment, it has divided the works into two broad themes, including energy transition and nature-based solutions. The nature-based solutions will include projects to protect and revitalise wetlands, mangroves and forests, landscape restoration and promote sustainable agriculture, it said. Energy transition will include renewables and/or energy efficiency programmes to support the shift towards renewables and scale efficiency initiatives in sectors like healthcare, dairy cold chain and for productive energy use by communities, it added. Union Power Minister R K Singh on Thursday urged the European Union (EU) to keep its green hydrogen market open for competition to get supplies at the lowest rate and avoid any accusation of protectionism. Speaking at the First EU-India Green Hydrogen Forum, Singh stated that India would produce large quantities of green hydrogen at the lowest price and would need electrolysers for producing 50GW hydrogen initially. Singh showcased a huge opportunity for the EU to get supplies of green hydrogen from India which could also help it to diversify its energy sourcing.
