Eight-year-old girl dies in Gujarat's Dahod after iron gate fell on her

An eight-year-old girl died after an iron gate fell on her at a government school in Gujarat's Dahod district, an official said on Monday. While the incident took place at a primary school in Rampura village on December 20, the victim died of head injuries at a hospital in Ahmedabad on Friday, the official said. A heavy iron gate on the school compound came off the hinges and fell on the victim Ashmita Mohaniya when she was playing near it, district primary education officer Mayur Parekh said. The girl sustained serious head injuries and was taken to a private hospital in Dahod city for primary treatment, and was later shifted to Ahmedabad civil hospital, where she died during treatment on Friday, he said. Following the incident, the school's principal was suspended with immediate effect, Parekh said. A case of accidental death was registered at Dahod rural police station and further probe was launched, a police official said.

Govt school enrolment rise post Covid, declined in pvt schools in 2021-22

Government run schools across the country continued to see rise in enrolments for the second consecutive year since COVID-19 outbreak while private schools saw decline, the Parliament was told Monday. The data was shared by Union Minister of State for Education Annapurna Devi in a written reply in Lok Sabha. "The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education has developed the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) system to record data on indicators of school education provided by all the States and Union Territories," Devi said. As per the data recorded in UDISE+, the enrolment in government schools was 13.09 crore during 2019-20. It rose to 13.49 crore in 2020-21 and to 14.32 crore in 2021-22. However, the enrolment in private schools declined to 8.82 crore crore during 2021-22 from 9.51 crore (2020-21) and 9.82 crore (2019-20) crore, according to the Ministry of Education (MoE) statistics. Assam's govt schools to get new infrastructure: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that all government schools in the state will soon get new infrastructure. More than 4,000 schools will be covered under the initiative, he said. Raj govt approves Rs 36 crore for digital libraries in 344 govt-run schools

The Rajasthan government sanctioned Rs 36.56 crore to set up digital libraries in 344 residential schools across the state, an official statement said. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot approved the amount in compliance with the announcement made during the discussion of the Finance and Appropriation Bill 2022-23. Gehlot had announced the financial provision for digital libraries and other necessary facilities for classes 9 to 12 in residential educational institutes and selected schools under various departments in view of the importance of digital learning in today's scenario, the statement said. Haryana buys 500,000 tablets for Classes 10-12 govt school students

Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal on Monday said that 5 lakh tablets were purchased for the students of Classes 10 to 12 studying in government schools. He said that total expenditure incurred on the purchase of the tablets is Rs 620 crore. He gave this information while responding to a question raised during Question Hour by Independent MLA Balraj Kundu on the opening day of the three-day monsoon session of the state assembly here. The Education Minister said the children will get free internet facility with the usage of 2 GB data per day.
