Stringent global quality norms denting India's fruit exports: Study

After growing a phenomenal 40 per cent for FY 2016-17, India's fruits exports are facing challenges to continue their growth momentum in coming years.A study titled "Indian agri exports: Study on difficulties faced by the exporters in the supply chain of agriculture products" conducted by Yes Bank with approval from the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (Apeda), find that India's fresh fruits exports are suffering due to stringent quality norms in importing countries which mandate exporters' procurement of goods from the registered suppliers only.While the entry of large corporate in contract farming has helped mitigate some of the quality issues exporters were facing earlier, experts believe that India would have a long way to go to get a significant pie in global fruits trade.
