Maha rains: Bridge washed away, Mumbra bypass road damaged in Thane

A bridge on the Vaitarna river in Maharashtra's Thane district has got washed away due to heavy rains, disrupting traffic between Wada and Sahapur talukas, government officials said on Thursday. After the incident at Belwad village in Sahapur taluka on Wednesday, Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde rushed to the spot and instructed officials to take up the repair of the bridge on war footing, they said. The Mumbra bypass road in the district also suffered severe damages in the wee hours of Thursday after rains, Thane Municipal Corporation's regional disaster management cell chief Santosh Kadam said. A four-five feet deep crater was formed on the road, following which it was closed for traffic as a precautionary measure, he added. Besides, a road in Dahigaon on Khardi-Temba-Wada route also suffered damages at various spots, affecting the movement of buses and commuters going towards Nashik, another official said. Cloudburst hits Jammu and Kashmir village, over 30 reported missing

Over 30 people are reported missing after a cloudburst in a remote village in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir early Wednesday, officials said. Rescue teams have been rushed to Honzar village of Dacchan tehsil and further details are awaited, they said. Most parts of the Jammu region have been receiving heavy rains for the past few days. With the prediction of more rains till July-end, authorities in Kishtwar have asked people living along water bodies and slide-prone areas to remain vigilant. "The meteorological department has predicted heavy rains during the upcoming days and water levels in rivers and nallas are expected to rise, which can pose a threat to the inhabitants residing near rivers, nallas, water bodies and slide-prone areas," the district administration said in an advisory issued late on Tuesday night.

10 missing, 1 injured in flash floods due to cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh

Around 10 people are reported missing in flash floods triggered by a cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh's tribal district of Lahaul-Spiti, a senior disaster management official said on Wednesday. The incident took place at Udaipur in Lahaul at around 8 PM on Tuesday, state disaster management director Sudesh Kumar Mokhta said. Two tents of labourers and a private JCB have been washed away, he said, adding that a 19-year-old labourer, Mohammad Altaaf, was injured while around 10 people are reported missing. Altaaf, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, has been referred to a nearby hospital. The state police and the ITBP teams were dispatched for searching the missing people but a heavy flow of water hampered the search operation on Tuesday night, the official said, adding that the search operation will resume on Wednesday morning, he added.
