Over 23,000 candidates appearing for GATE demand postponement of exam

Over 23,000 candidates appearing for the GATE examination in February have joined a petition demanding the exam be postponed in view of the third wave of COVID-19. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science for admission to the masters programme and recruitment by some public sector companies. This year the exam is being conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kahargpur from February 4-13. "With the current third wave, COVID-19 due to its new variant Omicron has spread severely in several states, cities. Several studies including one done by IIT Kanpur predict that the peak of the 3rd wave is expected in early February and the wave will end by April. JEE-Advanced registrations deferred again due to delay in JEE-Mains results

The registrations for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Advanced for admission to IITs were on Monday deferred again due to delay in announcement of JEE-Main results. The registration process was to begin last week but was deferred till Monday due to the delay in result. However, the registration did not begin on Monday as well. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, which is conducting JEE-Advanced this year, has not announced a new date for registration and has asked candidates to wait for an update. JEE-Advanced is scheduled to be conducted on October 3. "The result for JEE-Mains will be announced either tomorrow or latest by Wednesday," a senior official said. The official did not comment on the reason behind the delay in announcement of result. Starting this year, JEE-Mains was conducted four times a year to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores. The first phase was held in February and the second in March. CBI arrests 7 in connection with alleged manipulation of JEE Mains exam

The CBI had arrested seven persons in connection with alleged manipulation of JEE Mains examination 2021, officials said Thursday. The CBI action came after registration of a case against Affinity Education Pvt Ltd and three directors --Siddharth Krishna, Vishwambhar Mani Tripathi and Govind Varshney -- besides other touts and associates. Mishra and Krishna are among the arrested persons, the officials said. It is alleged that the directors in conspiracy with other associates and touts were "manipulating the online examination of JEE (Mains) and facilitating aspiring students to get admission in top NITs in consideration of huge amount by solving the question paper of the applicant through remote access from a chosen examination centre in Sonepat(Haryana)", CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi had said.
