Jaguar Land Rover on Tuesday announced a strategic partnership with Wolfspeed Inc for supply of silicon carbide semiconductors for next generation electric vehicles. Under the partnership, Jaguar Land Rover will use Wolfspeed's advanced silicon carbide technology specifically in the vehicles' inverter, managing transfer of power from battery to electric motors, the company said in a statement. "The first Range Rover vehicles with this advanced technology will be available from 2024, and the new all-electric Jaguar brand the following year," the Tata Motors-owned firm added. JLR will participate in the 'Wolfspeed assurance of supply program' to secure the supply of this technology for future electric vehicle production needs in order to enable greater visibility and control over JLR's future supply chain. Wolfspeed has an existing relationship with Jaguar TCS Racing team which competes in the Formula E World Championship. Its silicon carbide technology has been used to accelerate ..

The U.S. and the European Union have set up a task force tasked with resolving a dispute over electric vehicle batteries that the EU says would discriminate against manufacturers in the 27-nation bloc and break World Trade Organization rules. Under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed by U.S. Congress in August, electric car buyers are eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500 as long as the vehicle runs on a battery built in North America with minerals mined or recycled on the continent. The EU believes that the measure is a potential trans-Atlantic trade barrier discriminating against foreign producers. The EU announced on Wednesday that Bjoern Seibert, the head of cabinet to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met in Berlin with U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Mike Pyle to launch the task force. A first meeting will take place next week. The Task Force will address specific concerns raised by the EU related to the IRA," the Commission said. Both sides ..

A robotic dog delivered a champagne toast and Georgia's governor and junior US senator shared a brief bipartisan celebration ahead of high-stakes elections as Hyundai Motor Group broke ground Tuesday on its first US plant dedicated to making electric vehicles. Just five months after Hyundai announced the USD 5.5 billion manufacturing plant in Bryan County west of Savannah, vast areas of the site have already been cleared of trees. Euisun Chung, executive chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, said the plant will be the envy of the industry. The South Korean company plans to open the factory in 2025, with at least 8,100 employees producing up to 300,000 electric vehicles per year. Georgia officials say it's the largest economic development project the state has ever seen. This is transformational for the region, not just for people's children now, but for their grandchildren," Gov. Brian Kemp said. This is going to be a project that will resonate for generations to come. The timing could

The Biden administration on Wednesday awarded USD 2.8 billion in grants to build and expand domestic manufacturing of batteries for electric vehicles in 12 states. A total of 20 companies will receive grants for projects to extract and process lithium, graphite and other battery materials, manufacture components and strengthen U.S. supply of critical minerals, officials said. The announcement comes as the administration seeks to boost production and sales of electric vehicles as a key part of President Joe Biden's strategy to slow climate change and build up U.S. manufacturing. Biden has vowed to boost U.S. production of lithium and other critical minerals, and the sweeping climate and health-care law passed in August includes several provisions to boost electric vehicles, including tax credits for EV buyers worth up to $7,500. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, who announced the grant competition in May, called the funding announcement huge news that would expand made-in-America .
The International Energy Agency said Wednesday that it expects carbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels to rise again this year, but by much less than in 2021 due to the growth in renewable power and electric cars. Last year saw a strong rebound in carbon dioxide emissions the main greenhouse gas responsible for global warming after the global economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. The Paris-based IEA said CO2 emissions from fossil fuels are on course to rise by almost 1% in 2022 compared to the previous year. That's nearly 300 million metric tons of CO2 more than in 2021, when the burning of gas, oil and coal released about 33.5 billion tons of CO2. This year's increase is driven by power generation and by the aviation sector, as air travel rebounds from pandemic lows, the agency said. While coal emissions grew 2% as countries that previously imported natural gas from Russia scrambled for other energy sources, this didn't outweigh the expansion of
