Electric two-wheeler maker WardWizard Innovations and Mobility Ltd on Tuesday reported an over two-fold increase in sales at 43,914 units in 2022. The company, which sells e-two-wheelers under the 'Joy e-bike' brand, had sold 18,963 electric two-wheelers in 2021, it said in a statement. In December 2022, the company said its sales were at 5,400 units as against 3,860 units in the year-ago month, a growth of 39.89 per cent. "The calendar year 2022 has been an important year in which the company achieved new sales milestones, entered into new segments and expanded its presence across global markets," WardWizard Innovations & Mobility Chairman & Managing Director Yatin Gupte said. As the adoption of electric mobility is increasing, he said, "We are expecting new opportunities in the industry; overcome previous challenges, and observe strong growth momentum.
Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles on Tuesday sought extension of subsidies for EVs under the FAME II scheme and also include light to heavy commercial vehicles in it to promote electric mobility. In its pre-Budget recommendations, the industry body also called for a uniform 5 per cent GST on spare parts for electric vehicles. "The validity of FAME II is set to expire on March 31, 2024. We believe FAME's validity needs to be extended since we have yet to meet the penetration the subsidy was supposed to catalyse," Society of Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) said in a statement. The new FAME II scheme should be linked to e-mobility conversion rather than being time-based, it added. The EV industry body said market trends suggest that e-mobility, particularly electric two-wheelers (E2W) has the potential to continue growing once it reaches 20 per cent of the total two-wheeler market. Electric two-wheeler maker WardWizard Innovations and Mobility on Friday said its sales surged over two-fold to 7,123 units in November this year as compared with the same month last year. The company, which sells Joy e-bike, had sold 3,290 units in November last year. Last month's sales number is the company's best-ever monthly performance till date. "With improved supply chain and consistent market expansion, we have been able to reach maximum customers, achieving another sales milestone. Our robust product portfolio and market presence have supported us to add new customers to the family," WardWizard Innovations & Mobility Chairman & Managing Director Yatin Gupte said in a statement. As customer purchasing sentiments are inclining towards electric vehicles to meet their daily mobility needs, the company is confident of carrying the same sales momentum in the coming months, he added.

The government is working on developing electric highways powered by solar energy, that will facilitate the charging of heavy duty trucks and buses, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari said on Monday. Addressing an event organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Gadkari reiterated that the government wants to develop India's public transport system on electricity. "The government is strongly encouraging solar and wind energy-based charging mechanisms for electric mobility. "We are also working on developing electric highways, which will be powered by solar energy and this will facilitate charging of heavy duty trucks and buses while running," he said. An electric highway generally refers to a road which supplies power to vehicles travelling on it, including through overhead power lines.
