National Credit Framework released for public feedback: Govt to Parliament

The government has developed the National Credit Framework meant to seamlessly integrate the credits earned through school education, higher education and vocational & skill education for public consultations, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed Parliament on Wednesday. The Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship shared that the framework aims to enable the integration of academic and vocational domains to ensure flexibility and mobility between the two. No info from state govts about deadlock between VCs, chancellors: Centre

The Centre has not received any information from state governments about deadlocks between university vice-chancellors and chancellors, Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday. Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar also denied that the government is considering to set up a commission for ease of selection of qualified and skilled persons for appointment as vice-chancellors. "The University Grants Commission (UGC) has framed UGC (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and other Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2018, notified in the Gazette of India on 18th July, 2018," he said. 3-yr UG courses won't be suspended till 4-yr programme fully executed: UGC

Three-year undergraduate courses will not be discontinued till the four-year undergraduate programme is fully implemented, University Grants Commission Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar said. The new credit and curriculum framework for undergraduate courses was announced earlier this week and it defines Honours degree courses as a four-year programme. However, Kumar clarified that universities can choose between the three and four year programmes. "It is left to the universities," he said in an interview with PTI on Wednesday. He was asked whether it is mandatory for universities to migrate to the four-year pattern for Honours degrees. The University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman also said candidates with four-year undergraduate degrees can directly pursue Ph.D and they will not require a Master's degree. Over 11,000 faculty vacancies in central uni, IITs, IIMs: Education Min

Over 11,000 faculty positions are vacant in central universities, IITs and IIMs across the country, according to Ministry of Education (MoE) statistics. The data was shared by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a written reply in Lok Sabha. In 45 Central Universities, a total of 6,180 posts of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, out of 18,956 sanctioned posts are vacant. Similarly, in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), a total of 4,502 posts out of 11,170 sanctioned posts are vacant. In Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), 493 posts out of 1,566 faculty posts are vacant. "Occurrence of vacancies and filling thereof is a continuous process. Central Universities are autonomous bodies, established under respective Central Acts. No shortage of teachers, principals in Kendriya Vidyalayas: Education Min

There is no shortage of principals and teachers in Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country, Lok Sabha was informed Monday. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), an autonomous body which operates KVs across the country, has carried out a rationalization exercise for ensuring availability of adequate number of regular teachers in the school, according to Ministry of Education. The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Education, Annapurna Devi, in a written reply in Lok Sabha. "There is no such shortage of principals and teachers as teachers are regularly engaged on contractual basis pending regular recruitment, for which advertisement has been issued recently. Delhi University launches 100% fee waiver scheme for EWS students

The Delhi University has started a scheme of fee waiver for students from an economically weak background to provide the benefits of equity, access and quality with excellence to everyone, an official said on Wednesday. The waiver includes all components of the fees paid by the students except the examination fee and the hostel fee. Students from an economically weak background can get up to 100 per cent fee waiver, depending on their family income. A full-time bona fide student studying in the university is eligible to apply for it. December 12 is the last date for applying. "The University of Delhi celebrates diversity and is deeply committed to holistic and inclusive education. Education Ministry releases Performance Grading Index for states, UTs

The Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education today released the Performance Grading Index (PGI) for States/UTs for 2020-21, a unique index for evidence-based comprehensive analysis of school education system across State/UTs."The Indian Education System is one of the largest in the world with about 14.9 lakh schools, 95 lakh teachers, and nearly 26.5 crore students from varied socio-economic backgrounds. DoSE & L devised PGI for States/UTs to provide insights and data-driven mechanisms on the performance and achievements of on the success of school education across all States/UTs. The prime objective of PGI is to promote evidence-based policymaking and highlight course correction to ensure quality education for all.
