15 states among achievers in logistics performance index 2022: DPIIT report

Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Gujarat are among the 15 states and UTs categorised as achievers in the logistics index chart 2022, according to a report released by the commerce and Industry Ministry on Thursday. The index is an indicator of the efficiency of logistical services necessary for promoting exports and economic growth. Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Sikkim and Tripura are the other states categorised as fast movers in the ranking. The 15 states and UTs ranked in the aspirers category include Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa and Mizoram. The report ranks the states on the basis of their logistics ecosystem, highlights the key logistics-related challenges faced by the stakeholders and includes suggestive recommendations, according to the fourth LEADS (Logistics Ease Across Different States) 2022 report unveiled by the Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. Union Cabinet to approve National Logistics Policy on Wednesday: Report

The Union Cabinet is likely to approve the National Logistics Policy in its meeting on Wednesday, sources said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week unveiled the policy which seeks to cut transportation cost by promoting seamless movement of goods across the country. While launching the policy, the prime minister had said that "from 13-14 per cent (of the GDP), we should all aim to bring the logistics cost to single-digit as soon as possible". According to an e-book of the department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), an unified logistics interface platform (ULIP) will be developed as part of the policy to help different government and private agencies; shippers, service providers enable information exchange on a real time basis in a confidential manner. DPIIT planning multi-media campaign to promote over 400 GI products

The commerce and industry ministry is planning a multi-media campaign to promote over 400 GI (Geographical Indication) products such as Darjeeling Tea, Chanderi Fabric, Mysore Silk, and Kashmir Walnut Wood Carving. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) intends to empanel one or more audio-visual agencies to carry out various multi-media campaigns, production of advertising and promotional materials on a regular ongoing basis," said the department's notice inviting request for proposal. The agency will also support the department in scaling up the GI campaign through manifold interventions, considered important for building a strong GI ecosystem, it said. DPIIT may decriminalise different provisions related to minor offences

The commerce and industry ministry is framing a law to decriminalise all provisions related to minor offences with an aim to promote ease of doing business in the country, a senior official said. Work is at an advanced stage for framing the ease of doing business and ease of living bill and the ministry is targeting to introduce it in the winter session of parliament, the official said. We are making an Act. We are bringing one bill and that one bill seeks to decriminalise all the minor offences mentioned in different Acts. We are having consultations with all the departments on the bill. We will bring a common Act for decriminalisation. Basically replacing imprisonment and fine with penalties, and rationalisation. Consultations in progress on revising WPI base year to 2017-18: DPIIT secy

Inter-ministerial consultations are progressing on revising the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) base year from 2011-12 to 2017-18, a top government official has said. Revising base year to 2017-18 for computation of wholesale inflation would help in presenting a more realistic picture of the price situation in the country. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in June last year issued a draft technical report of a working group, which suggests revising the base year of wholesale price index and addition of about 480 new items such as medicinal plants, pen drive, lifts, gymnasium equipment and certain motorcycle engines in the new series. The draft report was placed in public domain and its feedbacks were considered before finalisation of the report. DPIIT to hire consultants to work towards ease of doing business

The commerce and industry ministry is planning to hire consultants to study business environment and compliances and suggest steps to promote ease of doing business in the country. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has invited applications from eligible qualified professionals for engagement as senior consultant and consultant for three years for working in the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) Reform Secretariat. The secretariat has been established in the DPIIT. Interested candidates can apply online by end of this month. The work responsibilities of these consultants include conducting a detailed analysis of existing acts/rules and their provisions; review and analyze the legal and regulatory frameworks dealing in different jurisdictions in India; and devise an action plan with a focused approach on the reforms required towards improving regulations.
