Ban on plying of BS-III petrol, BS-IV diesel vehicles in Delhi from Tues

The Delhi government has decided to impose a temporary ban on plying of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in the national capital from Tuesday in view of the worsening air quality. Delhi's air quality worsened to the severe category on Monday owning to unfavourable meteorological conditions -- clam winds and low temperatures -- prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to direct all NCR states to implement anti-pollution curbs with greater vigour. "The ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel vehicles will kick in from Tuesday since the air quality has deteriorated in the severe category. We are monitoring the situation along with the Environment department. For now, the ban is likely to be in place till Friday. If the air quality improves, the ban could be lifted before Friday," said a senior Transport department official. Air quality panel orders ban on diesel LMVs in Delhi-NCR, entry of trucks

With Delhi's air quality index (AQI) a notch short of entering the "severe plus" category, a central panel on Thursday directed authorities to ban the plying of four-wheeled diesel light motor vehicles in Delhi and adjoining NCR districts and the entry of trucks into the capital as part of anti-pollution measures under the final stage of the Graded Response Action Plan. However, BS-VI vehicles and those used for essential and emergency services are exempted, according to an order issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management. (CAQM) The order stated that the state government may take a call on the closure of educational institutions, non-emergency commercial activities and plying of vehicles on odd-even basis. Central and state governments may decide on permitting work from home. Delhi govt may issue fitness certificate to 15-year-old diesel vehicles

The Delhi government today hinted that it might take a decision on issuing fitness certificates to diesel vehicles of 10 to 15 years old to allow them to ply outside Delhi-NCR, a day after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered de-registration of such vehicles in a phased manner. The Transport Department is also contemplating introducing a policy to de-register diesel vehicles over 10 years old in a phased manner. De-registration of 15 to 10 years old diesel vehicles in the national capital would be carried out in a phased manner, the NGT had yesterday said while barring entry of such trucks with national permits in Delhi-NCR. It also said that diesel vehicles which are 15-year-old should be de-registered first and will not get No Objection Certificate (NoC) for plying outside Delhi-NCR. Only de-registered diesel vehicles which are less than 15-year-old can get NoC for plying in select areas outside Delhi-NCR to be decided by states where vehicle density is less. The ...
