AAP govt's Rozgar Budget for Delhi yet to take final shape, says Report

The AAP government's ambitious Rozgar Budget (2022-23) presented in Delhi Assembly is yet to take shape, according to the outcome budget report of the government for first two quarters of the current financial year. Several of the schemes announced by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the Assembly for employment generation, including the food truck policy, market redevelopment, Rozgar Bazar portal, Delhi Bazar, among others, are at various levels of approvals, said the outcome budget report of first two quarters (April June and July-September) of 2022-23. Under the Rozgar Bazar portal for which Rs 12 crore was allocated in the budget, the cumulative number of employers and job seekers registered by September 2022, was 65,617 and 15,48,227, respectively. As against 10,31,277 cumulative job vacancies posted on the portal, the details of placements were not shared in the report. HC directs Delhi govt to give free food, treatment to HIV-positive persons

Delhi High Court has directed the city government to ensure free food and medical treatment to HIV-positive persons living below the poverty line and strictly comply with the law dealing with the affected patients' grievances. A bench headed by Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma observed that several rehabilitative schemes and measures, including affordable treatment, had been put in place by the Delhi government to provide aid and assistance to HIV-positive patients and it was ensuring strict compliance under the Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Prevention and Control) Act, 2017. "It is abundantly evident that the GNCTD is ensuring strict compliance under the statutory provisions of the 2017 Act. Excise scam: Court extends judicial custody of four accused till Jan 7

A Delhi court on Monday extended till January 7 the judicial custody of four accused, arrested in a money laundering case related to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam also involving Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Special Judge M K Nagpal extended the custody of businessmen Sharath Reddy, Binoy Babu, Vijay Nair and Abhishek Boinpally after they were produced before the court, noting that the bail petitions of all these accused is presently pending in this court for arguments on different dates. The special judge passed the order after noting the submissions of Enforcement Directorate's special public prosecutor N K Matta that the agency was in process of filing a supplementary charge sheet against all arrested accused. The ED told the court that the charge sheet is likely to be filed by January 6. NHRC issues notice to Delhi govt over reports of sexual assault in Tihar

The NHRC has issued notices to the Delhi government and the director general of Prisons over reports that a prisoner was sexually assaulted by fellow inmates in Tihar Jail, officials said on Monday. The National Human Rights Commission has also decided to send its own team for an on-spot inquiry in the case, they said. The NHRC has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports carried on December 30 that a 22-year-old prisoner was allegedly sexually assaulted by fellow inmates at Tihar Jail, the rights panel said in a statement. Reportedly, the prisoner is under medical treatment, it said. The contents of the media reports, if true, amount to the violation of the victim's right to life and dignity, the NHRC said. According to the notices issued to the chief secretary of Delhi and the director general of Prisons, the commission has sought a detailed report in the matter within four weeks. Delhi LG eases licensing norms; bars in 5&4-star hotels to operate 24x7

All restaurants in 5-star and 4-star hotels in Delhi will now be allowed to operate round-the-clock, according to the new licensing norms aimed at boosting the national capital's night economy. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, had in November, set up a high powered committee to ease and facilitate license requirements for restaurants/eateries, and directed it to examine the existing regulations and suggest ways of expediting the licensing processes. After the submission of the report by the committee, it took several rounds of meetings to finally concretise the liberalised regulations, officials said. The Delhi government has implemented 77 major infrastructure projects of the education, health and the public works departments in the last five years, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Wednesday. Reviewing the projects with senior officials of PWD and the other departments concerned, Sisodia said city infrastructure, health and education have been the top most priorities of the Delhi government. Delhi govt approves project to upgrade Ghonda sewer pumping station

Delhi government has approved a project to upgrade the Ghonda sewer pumping station and replace the existing pipelines, an official said on Saturday. The project worth Rs 16.65 crore is likely to benefit thousands of residents of northeast Delhi, including that of Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the existing sewage pipeline in the Ghonda area is approximately 20 years old. "Over these two decades, the population of the surrounding areas has also increased substantially, leading to an increasing sewage load on these pipelines," he said. "In light of this, it has been decided that along with replacing the existing pipeline here, the sewage pump station will also be upgraded so that there is no problem like sewage overflow in the future," he added. Over 4 million consumers apply for Delhi govt's electricity scheme subsidy

More than 40 lakh of the national capital's 57.60 lakh domestic power consumers have applied for subsidies under the Delhi government's free electricity scheme till Tuesday, government data showed. The data also showed 47 lakh consumers received subsidies when consumers didn't need to apply for the scheme. The Delhi government revamped its subsidy scheme to make it mandatory for domestic consumers to apply to avail of the benefit. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier announced that from October, only those consumers who apply for power subsidy would get it. As of Tuesday evening, 40,28,915 consumers have applied for the subsidy. These include 9.88 lakh consumers of BSES Yamuna Power Limited, 18.28 lakh BSES Rajdhani Power Limited consumers and 11.28 lakh Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited consumers. Delhi govt to provide 450 types of medical tests free of cost from Jan 1

The Delhi government will provide 450 types of medical tests free of cost at its hospitals and health centres from January 1, sources said on Tuesday. The number of medical tests provided free of cost by the Delhi government at present is 212, they said. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has given nod to a health department proposal for making 238 more tests free of cost at hospitals and Mohalla Clinics, the sources in the government said.
