Fire breaks out at Noida factory, no casualty reported; rescue ops underway

A fire broke out at a factory in Noida on Monday morning, prompting rescue and relief measures at the site, police said. No casualty was reported in the fire that erupted in the factory located in Phase 2 industrial area around 9 am, a police official said. "Multiple water tenders were rushed at the spot along with firefighters and efforts are being made to douse the blaze," the official said. The local police are also at the spot to assist in the relief measures, the official added. The cause of the fire and damage to the property were yet to be known.

Fire in electrical meter room of high rise building in Thane; no casualty

A major fire broke out in the electrical meter room of a 20-storey residential building in Maharashtra's Thane city on Monday, a civic official said. No one was injured in the blaze which broke out at around 3.30 am in the building located in Balkum area, Thane Municipal Corporation's regional disaster management cell (RDMC) chief Avinash Sawant said. He said 24 out of the total 75 electrical meter boxes installed in the premises were destroyed in the fire. The power supply to the building was cut off immediately after the blaze erupted, he said. A team of local firemen and RDMC rushed to the spot and put out the fire in one-and-a-half hours, the official said. The cause of the fire is still not known, he added.

As many as 14 people were injured in a drive-by shooting, including three children, in the city's Garfield Park neighbourhood on Halloween night, Chicago police said. According to WLS-TV, Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said there were three juvenile victims: a 3-year-old, an 11-year-old and a teenager who may be 13 years old.
