Airlines with 20 aircraft can fly abroad, new aviation policy pushes regional linkages
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a new aviation policy with wide-ranging changes
To open door to a number of passenger-friendly measures including capping of airfares at Rs 2,500 for an hour-long flight
The Civil Aviation Ministry had sent the proposed policy to Cabinet for approval on June 3
With reference to the editorial, "Flying against the wind" (May 6), the government's plan to limit airfares of hour-long flights to Rs 2,500 is ill-conceived
The govt is still working on certain issues including those related to the 5/20 international flying norm.
Global airlines body IATA has also flagged concerns about proposed 2% levy on air tickets to fund regional connectivity
The changes suggested in the proposed civil aviation policy encourage competition and offer more choice to consumers
