US accuses former army pilot of illegally training Chinese military pilots

The US has accused a former military pilot of illegally training Chinese military pilots, and is trying to extradite him from Australia. But the pilot's lawyer says his client has been unfairly singled out because of the current geopolitical struggle between the US and China. Pilot Daniel Duggan, 54, has been held in an Australian jail since his October arrest. Duggan's lawyer Dennis Miralis said outside a Sydney courtroom Tuesday that Duggan denies the allegations and will continue to fight the extradition process at every step. Australia's Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus last month approved the US extradition request. But before the extradition can proceed, a judge must first determine whether Duggan is eligible for extradition under Australian law. Miralis said the US Department of Defence had acknowledged there were other people helping foreign militaries but that the US and Australia had singled out Duggan for extradition. We are concerned that this does highlight the political

China building Army outpost near LAC disturbing sign: US Congressman

China building a military post near the Line of Actual Control with India is a disturbing sign of Chinese aggression with its neighbours, a top Indian American lawmaker said on Wednesday, following the appearance of a media report in this regard. Politico on Wednesday reported that China had built a military outpost near its disputed border with India. It cited new satellite imagery as showing the outpost, a move that signals Beijing's intentions for a long-term deployment at the global flashpoint. "The pictures, obtained by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies' China Power project and shared with NatSec Daily, show the People's Liberation Army constructed a headquarters and garrison to house troops at Pangong Tso, a remote lake that stretches across the Line of Actual Control between the two countries, Politico reported. The report of a new People's Liberation Army outpost near the Line of Actual Control between Indian and the People's Republic of China is another ..

China's military threats will further divide both sides: Taiwan President

China's threats of military action against Taiwan are absolutely not an option and will only push our two sides further from each other," Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said Monday. Speaking on Taiwan's National Day, Tsai said China should not mistake competition within Taiwan's multiparty democratic political system for weakness and attempt to divide Taiwanese society. I want to make clear to the Beijing authorities that armed confrontation is absolutely not an option for our two sides," Tsai said. Only by respecting the commitment of the Taiwanese people to our sovereignty, democracy, and freedom can there be a foundation for resuming constructive interaction across the Taiwan Strait," she said. Fighter jets and a Chinook helicopter displaying Taiwan's flag flew overhead while the band from Taipei's First Girls' High School played hits ranging from the Beatles to Lady Gaga. National Day included international guests such as Palau President Surangel S. Whipps Jr., whose country

India-China disengagement at PP-15 'one problem less' on border: Jaishankar

The disengagement between the armies of India and China at the Patrolling Point 15 in eastern Ladakh is "one problem less" on the border, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday. At a media briefing after his talks with French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, Jaishankar also took an indirect pot shot at China while replying to a question about ''one country'' blocking proposals at the UN Security Council to designate proscribed terrorists. "I do not think I will say anything new today except I would recognise that we have had disengagement at PP-15 (Patrolling Point 15). The disengagement as I understand was completed. That is one problem less on the border," Jaishankar said, in response to a question. Indian and Chinese armies carried out a joint verification of the disengagement process at PP-15 in the Gogra-Hotsprings area in eastern Ladakh after withdrawing their troops and dismantling temporary infrastructure from the friction point on Monday. The ...

Chinese army confirms disengagement of India, China troops from east Ladakh

The Chinese military on Friday confirmed that the troops of China and India have begun the process of disengagement from the Patrolling Point 15 in the Gogra-Hotsprings area of eastern Ladakh in a "coordinated and planned way." Marking a significant forward movement to end the standoff in eastern Ladakh that has lasted for over two years, the Indian and Chinese armies on Thursday announced that they have begun to disengage from the Patrolling Point 15 in the Gogra-Hotsprings area. India has been consistently maintaining that peace and tranquillity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) were important for the overall development of bilateral ties. The two militaries held 16 rounds of Corps Commander-level talks to resolve the standoff. "On 8th September, 2022, according to the consensus reached in the 16th Round of China-India Corps Commander Level Meeting, the Chinese and Indian troops in the area of Jianan Daban have begun to disengage in a coordinated and planned way, which is ...
