Maneka Gandhi slams Rajasthan govt over spread of lumpy skin disease

Former Union minister and Sultanpur Lok Sabha MP Maneka Gandhi has attacked the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan, saying leaving the lumpy virus-affected cows in the open is leading to further spread of the disease. Speaking at a programme here, she said, "The lumpy virus-affected cows are left in the open in Rajasthan, due to which the disease is spreading very fast. It is also affecting humans. Pustules coming out on people's faces is a result of this." She said the virus has assumed a serious proportion and lakhs of cattle died due to this. The Centre has prepared an indigenous vaccine to curtail it and the affected states have been provided the vaccine, she said.

Mumbai Police bans transport of cattle to curb spread of lumpy skin disease

The Mumbai Police have prohibited the transportation of cattle in the city in order to prevent the spread of lumpy skin disease. The police issued an order to this effect on September 14 and it will remain in force till October 13, an official said on Sunday. Anybody found violating the order will be penalised, he said. The area under the Mumbai Police commissionerate is declared as "controlled area" for lumpy skin disease, the order said. It is forbidden to bring cattle out of the places where they are being raised. There is a prohibition on transporting bovine animals to market places or exhibition centres, the order said. More than 3,300 cattle found infected with lumpy skin disease in MP so far

A total of 3,314 cattle were found infected with lumpy skin disease in Madhya Pradesh and 38 of them have succumbed to the infection so far, officials said on Thursday. Delhi reports 173 cases of lumpy virus in cattle, no death so far

At least 173 cases of lumpy virus have been found among cattle in Delhi, mostly in the southwest district, and no death has been reported so far, authorities said Saturday. This is the first time the Delhi government has reported cases of lumpy virus in the capital. A senior official said the first case was detected around eight to 10 days ago and "no death has been reported so far". The Centre on Thursday said that about 57,000 cattle have died so far due to 'lumpy skin disease' across various parts of the country and asked affected states to boost the vaccination process to control the disease.
