The Bombay High Court will pronounce the verdict in the Gulshan Kumar murder case at 10.30 am today.A bench of Justices Jadhav and Borkar will pronounce its verdict in the case.A total of four appeals are listed in the High Court. Three appeals are against the conviction of accused Rauf Merchant, Rakesh Chanchaya Pinnam and Rakesh Khaokar, while another has been filed by the Maharashtra government against the acquittal of Ramesh Taurani. He was acquitted on the charges of abetment to murder.Gulshan Kumar, the founder of the T-Series music label and a Bollywood movie producer, was killed on August 19, 1997, in Juhu. Several people were arrested and prosecuted in his murder cases.

Bombay High Court orders judicial inquiry in Malad building collapse

The Bombay High Court on Friday has ordered a judicial inquiry in the matter of the Malad building collapse that claimed the lives of 12 people."It seems that despite this Court taking suo-motu cognizance of an incident of building collapse in Bhiwandi on September 21, 2020, which took as many as 38 lives, to initiate this Public Interest Litigation for ensuring the protection of lives of citizens and having passed several orders seeking to activate the respondents to come down heavily on illegal and unauthorized buildings/structures," the court said."This Court is pained to observe that officials employed with the respondents have exhibited extreme lack of solicitude for the rule of law and failed to discharge their statutory duties effectively, which could have prevented the recent building collapses as well as saved the lives of the inhabitants thereof," it stated.The court appoints Justice JP Deodhar (Retd) of Bombay HC as commissioner of inquiry for Malad building ...

Tell Centre mucormycosis patients dying due to drug shortage: HC to Maha

The Bombay High Court on Thursday said that Maharashtra needs to tell the Centre that mucormycosis patients in the Marathwada region of the state are dying due to the shortage of medicine required in its treatment. Justices R V Ghuge and B U Debadwar of the high court's Aurangabad bench was informedthat patients in Marathwada were being under-treated as there is a shortage in the supply of Amphotericin B, a drug used in the treatment of mucormycosis or black fungus infection. The bench was hearing petitions pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic. Advocate Satyajit Bora, appointed to assist the court, argued that patients are being administered one to two injections per day as against the requirement of four to five injections per patient per day. As a consequence, there have been 124 deaths. Even today, there is a shortage of about 70 per cent of the required quantity of the drug, he said.
