Oppn should think about 2029 polls not 2024, says BJP leader Javadekar

Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Monday said the opposition should understand the personality of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the work being done by him for the people of the country and advised them not to worry about the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and instead think of the 2029 elections. He said after Modi became prime minister in 2014, the atmosphere in the country changed for good. The country got a prime minister who came up with different thinking and programmes, communicated directly with people and brought transparency in governance, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said. The Rajya Sabha member was speaking at a function organized by the Thane city BJP here for the release of a book on Modi's 20 years in public office - 12 years as Chief Minister of Gujarat and eight years as PM. Operation Lotus: CM Kejriwal tables confidence motion in Delhi Assembly

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday tabled a confidence motion in the Delhi Assembly, saying it was meant to prove that the BJP's 'Operation Lotus' may have been successful in other states but it failed here as all AAP MLAs are "hardcore honest". He said the BJP could not poach any of the AAP MLAs. He also alleged that the BJP will try to topple the Jharkhand government in the next 15 days. Kejriwal said the current central government is the "most corrupt" as it is "buying MLAs" by taxing the common people, while it is waiving loans of its billionaire friends. The House was later adjourned for the day amid an uproar over allegations that Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena pressured his employees to exchange demonetised currency notes worth Rs 1,400 crore in 2016 when he was the chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission. Earlier, challenging the BJP to buy even one AAP MLA, Kejriwal said, "The confidence motion is to show that 'Operation Lotus' could have been

Mamata says ousting BJP from power in 2024 will be her 'last fight'

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday asserted that ousting the BJP from power at the Centre in 2024 will be her "last fight". The 67-year-old feisty TMC boss, however, did not clarify her remark. "The BJP has to be defeated in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The fight for Delhi to oust the saffron party from power at the Centre will be my last. I promise to oust the BJP from power," she said while addressing a rally here. Without giving further clarification, she said, "The BJP has to be defeated at any cost." "Saving West Bengal is our first fight. I promise we will remove the BJP from power at the Centre in 2024. If you try to intimidate us, we will respond," Banerjee said. Banerjee, while referring to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi losing elections in 1989 despite winning more than 400 seats in 1984, said, "Everybody has to taste defeat." "Indira Gandhi was a strong political leader, but she had also tasted defeat. The BJP has around 300 MPs, but Bihar is gone, a

After Gandhi, it's Modi who understood people's sentiments: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the only leader after Mahatma Gandhi who understood the sentiments of the masses, asserting he directly connects with people who in turn trust him. Speaking at the release of the book, The Architect of the New BJP: How Narendra Modi Transformed the Party, Singh heaped praise on the prime minister's governance and organisational capabilities and said he has no parallel in contemporary politics. He has made the BJP a "poll-winning machine" with his innovations, without compromising on ideology, Singh said. The BJP's ideology and political events may have contributed to the party's "invincible" journey in the last eight years but Modi's strategy in taking this concept to people and winning their trust is without a parallel, he said. Whatever work he was assigned by the RSS and the BJP, Modi carried it out and delivered more than expectations, he said, adding that there has been no other leader like him

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday tore into the NDA government at the Centre saying people should take a pledge to make a "BJP-mukt Bharat" in 2024 even as he said a government of farmers will be coming at the national level in future. Speaking at a public meeting at Peddapalli, 165 km from here, Rao, popularly known as KCR, describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "Golmal PM", said whatever he and the Centre say are "blatant lies". "We all should take a pledge and be prepared to create BJP-mukt Bharat in 2024. We should march forward with that slogan. Then only we can save this country, otherwise there is no scope to save this nation," he said. Why no action against builders of Supertech twin towers: Akhilesh asks BJP

A day after the illegally built Supertech twin towers were demolished, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday asked the ruling BJP why it hasn't taken action against those responsible for their construction in Noida. Speaking to reporters after inspecting a cow milk plant and a vegetable plant here, Yadav alleged that no one is a bigger liar than the BJP and it did not read the Supreme Court order that called for action against the guilty. A series of controlled explosions reduced the 100-metre tall Supertech twin towers to a huge pile of rubble on Sunday in Noida. Apex (32 storeys) and Ceyane (29 storeys) were gone in 12 seconds in the carefully choreographed and meticulously executed demolition -- the biggest such exercise in the country so far. The Supreme Court ordered the demolition a year back, saying there had been "collusion" between the builders and Noida Authority officials who let Supertech Ltd. construct in the area where no buildings were to come up accordin

AAP govt hiked school classroom construction cost by Rs 326 cr, alleges BJP

The BJP on Monday alleged a scam in the Delhi education department, saying the city government increased the budget for the construction of classrooms in its existing schools, ignoring the Central Public Works Department's guidelines. Citing a Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report sent to the Delhi government's vigilance department in 2020, the saffron party said the city government hiked the construction cost by Rs 326 crore, 53 percent more than the original tender amount, without floating a new tender. Alleging that the Delhi government counted toilets as classrooms to inflate figures related to school infrastructure, it said the AAP's education model was actually and extortion model. "Corruption is in the DNA of Arvind Kejriwal. It's not AAP sarkar but PAAP ki sarkar (government of sins). He and (Manish) Sisodia are experts in corruption... Where did this money go? Did it go in your pocket, Arvind Kejriwal ji? Did you take note of the report? What action did you take on it?"

Chhattisgarh minister Deo's gaffe embarrasses Congress; BJP hits out at CM

Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo's gaffe while describing the financial condition of the state in a video has left the Bhupesh Baghel government embarrassed, while the opposition BJP alleged financial mismanagement and hurled "Mr Bantadhar" (spoilsport) jibe at the chief minister. In the video, Singh Deo can be heard saying the state government has no "aukat" (status) to hike allowances of the protesting employees as it had already given Rs 40,000 crore to them. Facing flak, Singh Deo later expressed regret for the mistake in choosing the word and said the BJP should cooperate with the Chhattisgarh government by asking the central government to release the funds it owes to the state in the interest of the people. The senior Congress leader, locked in a turf war with Chief Minister Baghel, had last month relinquished the Panchayat and Rural Development ministry, one of the four portfolios held by him. Ahead of CWC meet, Congress leaders reject Azad's criticism of Rahul

With Ghulam Nabi Azad's exit casting a shadow on the meeting of the Congress' apex decision-making body, party leaders on Saturday slammed him for "targeted personal vilification" of Rahul Gandhi while the BJP said the veteran leader has raised valid questions. Azad, who ended his five-decade association with the grand old party on Friday, had accused Rahul Gandhi of demolishing its entire consultative mechanism and also pinned the blame on him for the 2014 electoral debacle. Congress leader Sachin Pilot said when the party is preparing to take on the "misgovernance" of the BJP government, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister had not fulfilled his responsibility. "He (Azad) held various posts for over 50 years and now, when there is a need for the country and the party to raise people's issues, this was uncalled for," said Pilot. Asked about Azad's statement blaming Rahul Gandhi's action of tearing up a government ordinance in "full glare" of the media for the loss of the .
