JD(U) flays Bihar BJP chief over misleading population growth rate figures

The JD(U) on Friday lashed out at Bihar BJP chief Sanjay Jaiswal for coming up with misleading data on population growth rate in two districts of the state, alleging that he was trying to incite communal hatred among people. Jaiswal had on Wednesday claimed that population growth rate in Kishanganj and Araria districts was the "highest in the world", partly due to the alleged high rate of influx of Bangladeshi infiltrators. All BJP leaders, including Jaiswal, are engaged in inciting communal hatred among people in the state to derive political mileage They (BJP) are doing this as Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Bihar on September 24, JD(U) leaders Neeraj Kumar and Arvind Nishad said in a statement. Jaiswal is giving wrong and misleading information. The population growth rate in several other districts in India is much higher than Araria and Kishanganj, they claimed. According to the 2011 census, Kishanganj has a 67 per cent Muslim population, the highest in any

AAP claims map of building collapsed in Delhi was fraudulently obtained

The AAP on Friday hit out at the BJP over the collapse of a four-storey building in the city and demanded a probe into the incident, alleging that its map was obtained through fraudulent means. Addressing a press conference, the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) chief spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged the involvement of the Delhi civic body's Building Department officials in grant of construction permit for the building through "fraud and forgery". "The map of the four-storey under-construction building, which collapsed in Sheesh Mahal area today, was passed through forgery and fraud as the building was being constructed in the area beyond the permissible limit of 100 yards," he claimed. The building caved in as the ground underneath was being dug at the site to create a basement after constructing the fourth floor of the structure, he added. "The MCD officials must have been bribed for the construction of this building. It's not possible for anybody to hide any construction work from M

Campsites have 'basic' facilities, BJP trying to 'defame' Yatra: Congress

The Congress on Friday said its 'Bharat Yatris' were staying in containers which have very "basic and minimal" facilities, and claimed that the BJP was trying to "defame" its 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' as it was rattled by it. The Opposition party alleged that the BJP IT cell was spreading falsehoods about the facilities at its Yatra campsites and in containers. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also took a dig at the BJP, saying this is not like the 1990 "Rath Yatra" a Toyota Yatra or an Innova Yatra ours is a Padyatra. The attack by the Opposition party came after it gave access to the media to its campsite in Nagercoil where the 60 containers were parked. About 230 people, including 119 Bharat Yatris who will walk the full 3,570 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir will spend their nights in 60 containers mounted on trucks that will be moved daily from one place to another. There is Janta Raj, not Jungle Raj in Bihar: Nitish rubbishes BJP's claim

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday rubbished the BJP's jibe that 'Jungle Raj' (lawlessness) has returned to Bihar with the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government coming to power, and asserted that there is 'Janta Raj' (people's rule) in the state. "Stray incidents are not a reflection of the overall law and order situation in the state. What Jungle Raj? Maintaining law and order has been the priority of our government. There is Janta Raj," Kumar said when asked about the saffron party's jibe. Attacking senior BJP leaders in the state, he said such comments do not affect the government as it is committed to working for the people of Bihar. "If Sushil Modi (former deputy CM) or Sanjay Jaiswal (state BJP chief) criticise me, they may get plum posts in the party or the central government," he said. On his recent meetings with opposition leaders in Delhi, Kumar said, "My focus is on bringing together all opposition parties in the country. My meetings with opposition leaders we

Yakub Memon grave 'beautification' row: BJP, Uddhav-led Sena trade barbs

A controversy has erupted over the burial place of 1993 Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon in Mumbai, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming that the grave was "beautified" and attempts were made to turn it into a shrine of sorts. The BJP claimed that Memon's grave was "beautified" during Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray's tenure as Maharashtra chief minister and sought his apology over it. However, the Sena leaders maintained that the party and the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had nothing to do with it and that it was being dragged into the issue unnecessarily. As the row erupted over the issue, Mumbai police swung into action on Thursday, removing the LED lights put around the grave of the terror convict, who was hanged at Nagpur jail in 2015 and buried at the Bada Qabrastan in south Mumbai. A DCP-level police officer will probe how the LED lights and marble tiles came to "adorn" the terror convict's grave, an official said. With some Maharashtra

Opposition will unite to oust BJP from power in 2024, says Mamata

While addressing a party programme here, Banerjee, also the Trinamool Congress supremo, claimed that the BJP would face a rout because of its arrogance and people's anger. I, Nitish Kumar, Hemant Soren and many others will come together in 2024. All opposition parties will join hands to defeat the BJP. All of us will be on one side and the BJP on the other. The BJP's arrogance of 300 seats will be its nemesis. There will be Khela Hobe' in 2024, she said. Kejriwal says Independent India made mistake, didn't focus on education

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday launched his party's Make India No. 1' campaign, claiming the country made the mistake of not giving importance to education when it gained Independence. Beginning the campaign from his home district Hissar, he also accused the ruling BJP in Haryana and the state's previous Congress government of shutting government schools. He called it a very dangerous trend for the country. "The country should have focused on education. We should have focused on building good government schools in every nook and corner, every village and mohalla in war mode in 1947, the Delhi chief minister told reporters, pointing at the mistake made after Independence. After Haryana, the Aam Aadmi Party leader plans to visit other states as part of the new campaign. He is on a two-day trip to the state.
