BJP leaders agst English but their children study in English schools: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders on Monday for "speaking against English", saying they oppose the use of English as a teaching medium in schools but their children study in such schools. Lauding the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan for opening 1,700 English medium schools and recruiting 10,000 English teachers, Gandhi said studying Hindi and other Indian languages is important but in order to talk to the world, Hindi will not be useful and command over English will be required. "Leaders opposed to us, those in the BJP, wherever they go, they talk against English. They say there should be no English in schools. There should be Bengali and Hindi, but no English," he said. Gandhi urged people to ask these leaders where their children study. "From Amit Shah to their chief ministers, MPs, MLAs -- their children go to English medium schools and they give speeches that no one should speak in English," he ...

BJP govt talks like a lion, acts like a mouse: Kharge on border faceoff

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday alleged that the BJP government "talks like a lion outside the country, but is acting like a mouse within" as it is unable to take on China for indulging in incursions along the border and is running away from a debate on the issue in Parliament. Speaking at a rally in Rajasthan's Alwar during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he also claimed that while the Congress stood for the country and helped attain Independence after its leaders gave supreme sacrifices, "not even a dog of the BJP was lost" for the country. Kharge accused the BJP of dividing the people of the country on lines of religion, caste and region and alleged that it was ending democracy and autonomy of constitutional institutions, against which the Congress was taking out the Bharat Jodo Yatra. "The Modi government claims that they are very strong and pat themselves claiming no one can look into their eyes, but disputes and clashes are rising at the border. After 20 of our soldiers

Smriti Irani visits Amethi only to show 'latkas, jhatkas': Cong's Ajay Rai

UP Congress leader Ajay Rai on Monday took a jibe at Union minister Smriti Irani here, saying that she only comes to her constituency Amethi to show "latkas" and "jhatkas", an unflattering reference to dance moves that provoke a sharp response from the BJP. Such a remark from a leader of the party which gave the woman prime minister to the nation, is definitely "shameful", UP BJP spokesperson Anand Dubey said in Lucknow, alleging language used by the Congress leaders has always been "anti-women". Speaking to reporters here, while answering a question whether Rahul Gandhi will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Rai said, "It (Amethi) has been the seat of the Gandhi family. Rahul jee has been the Lok Sabha MP from there, so has been Rajiv (Gandhi) jee and Sanjay (Gandhi) jee, and they have served it." Currently, Amethi is represented in Lok Sabha by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Irani. "Most of the factories in Amethi are on the verge of closure. Half

In market of hatred, open shops to spread love like me: Rahul Gandhi to BJP

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday urged BJP leaders criticising him to "open up shops to spread love in the market of hatred" as he was doing through his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Addressing a poll rally here, he also asked each minister in the Rajasthan Cabinet to undertake a yatra once a month across the desert state to reach out to the common people and redress their grievances. He accused the BJP leaders of abusing him and spreading hatred. On seeing Congress workers give flying kisses to him, Gandhi said he got distracted by their gesture and said even those atop BJP offices wave back at him after initial hesitation. He said the Yatra has walked for 100 days now and "on the way sometimes I met my dear friends who are standing atop BJP offices, who do not respond to my waving but later they do". "I don't hate them but I stand by my ideology. They ask me what I am doing and their leaders ask me why I am walking from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. "Some of them (of BJP) ask me what I am

Tytler's presence at Bharat Jodo Yatra meeting shows Cong's true face: BJP

The BJP on Monday slammed the Congress over the presence of Jagdish Tytler in a party meeting regarding the preparations for the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Tytler, once a formidable leader of the Congress in Delhi, had also served as a Union minister. He stepped down after his name was figured in a report of the Nanavati Commission which probed into the anti-Sikh riots. Tagging a media report on Tytler's presence in the meeting, BJP's national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said this has revealed the true face of Congress. "This is not Bharat Jodo but Congress ka Nafrat Jodo. Congress ka Haath hamesha Sikh Narsanghar ke saath. From Bada Ped girta hai comment to patronising Jagdish Tytler. The true face of Congress (sic)," tweeted Poonawalla. (This is not a walk to connect India but Congress' way to increase hatred. Congress is with those who are involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots). Govt will face trouble if demands not met: Farmers at 'Kisan Garjana' rally

An RSS-affiliated farmers' body held a 'Kisan Garjana' rally at Ramleela Ground here on Monday and warned that the states and the BJP-led central government will face trouble if their demands are not met in time. Thousands of farmers from several states, including Punjab, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, reached Delhi on tractors, motorcycles and buses braving extreme cold to take part in the rally organised by the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS). They seek relief measures from the government, including a rollback of GST on farming activities and an increase in the income support provided under the PM-Kisan scheme, a BKS member said. A note issued by the BKS said "state and central governments will face trouble if they do not heed the farmers' demand in time". The farmers have also called for revocation of the permission for commercial production of genetically modified crops and remunerative prices for their produce based on the input cost. Launc
