BJP scared of Left, Congress electoral understanding in Tripura: Ex-CM

Claiming that the electoral understanding between the Left and the Congress has a moral ground in Tripura, CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar said that the ruling BJP is scared of two of its rivals coming together to oust the fascist ruler in the northeastern state. He also accused the saffron party of throttling democracy in the northeastern state during its rule in the past five years. The BJP must be thinking about how its two rivals have joined hands. They are also questioning the morality of the electoral adjustment but the reality is that the people want to oust the fascist ruler from power, he said at an election rally in Dhalai district's Surma assembly constituency on Monday. Sarkar claimed that the Left-Congress understanding is based on the people's aspiration to restore democracy in the northeastern state. Both CPI (M) and Congress are helping each other for restoring democracy, secularism and protecting people's liberty. The electoral understanding between the two parties has

AAP, BJP making mockery of people's mandate in MCD poll: Congress

The Delhi Congress on Monday lashed out at the BJP and the AAP, accusing them of stalling the mayoral elections and making a "mockery" of people's mandate in the MCD polls. Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary alleged that the AAP has betrayed the people of Delhi by "disrupting" the poll for the third time. He also accused the AAP councillors of clashing with the BJP councillors on the issue of allowing alderman to vote. The municipal House failed to elect a mayor for a third time in a month on Monday after a ruckus erupted over the nominated members being allowed to vote in the election to the post. "Why was the AAP rattled by the alderman getting voting rights if the new MCD Act has provision for that? It seems that both AAP and BJP have conspired to disrupt the mayoral elections as the third session of the MCD House at the Civic Centre also ended in a ruckus again. It has been two months since the MCD elections were held and the Capital is yet to get a Mayor," Chaudhary said.

BJP charges AAP of resorting to excuses to delay the MCD mayor election

The BJP Monday accused the Aam Aadmi Party of coming out with excuses to stall the mayoral election, as the MCD House was adjourned for a third time in a month without completing the poll process. BJP leaders said their councilors, aldermen and MPs who have voting right in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House will stage a protest outside the AAP headquarters here on Tuesday. BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who addressed a press conference along with other party colleagues, rejected AAP's opposition to allow aldermen (nominated councilors) to vote in the mayoral poll. The law mandates the Central government to decide who will vote in the MCD House, he said. The AAP has slammed the decision by presiding officer Satya Sharma, who is a BJP councilor, to allow voting right to aldermen. Delhi BJP MLA Vijender Gupta said the AAP comes up with one or the other excuse to create a ruckus at the MCD House and stall the elections for the posts of mayor, deputy mayor, and members of the stand

Aldermen can vote in Delhi mayoral polls, says MCD presiding officer

The municipal House witnessed an uproar on Monday after Presiding Officer Satya Sharma announced that the nominated members will also be allowed to vote in the elections for mayor, deputy mayor and Standing Committee members. Soon after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House assembled around 11:30 am, after a delay of half an hour, she announced that elections to the posts of mayor, deputy mayor and Standing Committee members would be held simultaneously. "Aldermen will be allowed to vote in the elections for mayor, deputy mayor and Standing Committee members," Sharma said. The announcement drew protests from AAP councillors. Party leader Mukesh Goel said aldermen can't vote. To this, Sharma said, "People have sent you here to serve them, let the election be held." Following this, the House was adjourned briefly. This is the third session of the House after the December 4 municipal polls. The first two sessions -- held on January 6 and January 24 -- were adjourned by the

BJP instructs its councilors to stall MCD mayor polls: Manish Sisodia

Ahead of the MCD House session on Monday, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia alleged the BJP has instructed its councillors to create a ruckus like the last time to stall the mayoral elections. Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva retorted, saying it is the AAP which has asked its councillors to do so and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be responsible if the House is adjourned. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House is set to convene later in the day to elect a mayor for the city after failing to complete the poll in two previous attempts. The first two sessions -- held on January 6 and January 24 -- were adjourned by the presiding officer without electing a mayor following a ruckus and acrimonious exchanges between the members of the BJP and the AAP. "The BJP has instructed its councillors to stall the mayoral election again today. They have been told to create a ruckus on some pretext as soon as the House convenes. 'Modi critics weaving a dismal picture', says BJP leader Prakash Javadekar

BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Sunday denied the allegations raised by opposition parties, including the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala, that non-BJP states were discriminated against in fund allocation, and said critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi were "weaving a dismal picture". He said even though the country has "achieved remarkable progress" in all vital sectors, the Congress and Communists were making "concerted efforts to project India as a loser". Speaking at the Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL 2023), Javadekar accused the critics of Prime Minister Modi of spreading a false narrative on India's democracy and federalism. "Those who are peddling in falsehood should remember that lies have no life. You can tell lies, once, twice or thrice. But a lie has no life," Javadekar said. He said India is a vibrant democracy and all the fundamentals of the system are strong and safe. "We believe in the prosperity of all. We love and respect each other. Citizens are n
