Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Monday claimed that the CBI team's visit to the residence of his mother and ex-CM Rabri Devi was a result of his family's relentless opposition to the ruling BJP at the Centre. He also asserted that his father Lalu Prasad, who has been named in the land for jobs case, had "no powers" to provide employment in exchange of favours as the then railway minister. Earlier in the day, a CBI team visited the Rabri Devi's residence here in connection with a "further probe" in the land for jobs scam case, officials said. There is no search or raid taking place, they said. "It is an open secret that probe agencies are acting against political opponents of the BJP and helping those who agree to align with that party. Examples of Ajit Pawar in Maharashtra and Mukul Roy in West Bengal are proof, the RJD leader told reporters outside the Bihar assembly. He, however, declined to comment on questions about the "timing" of the latest CBI action, which co

The G20 theme of one world, one family, one future" is derived from a "Bharatiya" concept, Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai said here on Monday. Addressing the 23rd Commonwealth law conference 2023 near Panaji, the governor said the commonwealth countries must work for the protection of the environment. "The theme of G20 'One World, One Family, One Future' given at the Bali conference is based on the Bharatiya concept of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'. The original Bharatiyas proudly say that let noble thoughts come from everywhere and we are prepared to receive them, he said after inaugurating the five-day conference being attended by representatives from 52 countries. The five southern states have a total of 129 Lok Sabha seats on offer and the BJP has a mere 29 of them in the current Parliament. But bolstered by its excellent electoral show in the north-east in the just concluded polls and a changed scenario in some of the southern states between 2019 and 2024, the saffron party is looking at more voters from the south to give thumbs up in its bid to form the third NDA government in a row in 2024. The elections scheduled in the party-ruled Karnataka and BRS-dominated Telangana later this year might just indicate if the political weather is conducive for the Lotus to bloom in the south, even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has exuded confidence of the party emerging victorious in Kerala, from where the BJP has neither has an elected MP nor an MLA. The party has rose as a challenger to the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), led by K Chandrasekhar Rao in Telangana, as demonstrated in a couple of Assembly bypolls where it emerged victorious and an

The BJP seems to be falling back on its seasoned oarsman B S Yediyurappa making him a key poll mascot, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as it shores up campaign in poll-bound Karnataka. The octogenarian, who has already announced his retirement from electoral politics, is sought to be put on the pedestal by the governing party's central leaders. The reasons are not far to seek as to why Yediyurappa has been pushed to the top of the campaign plank, the four-time Chief Minister, who built the party from grassroots level, has a mass appeal and connect -- particularly the political influential Lingayat community -- that no other party leader in the State commands. It's now quite evident from the BJP's campaign narrative that the party is banking on the "Yediyurappa factor" and putting him up as the "poster boy" by leveraging his clout to the hilt. Hitting out at former chief minister Siddaramaiah, he said there were 59 corruption cases, which could not be investigated because he had weakened the Lokayukta institution by bifurcating it and creating an anti-corruption bureau. Speaking to reporters here, he said his government has given independence to the Lokayukta which made the impartial probe possible. "The opposition has no other job other than seeking my resignation. I would like to ask Siddaramaiah whether he had resigned as chief minister when Rs two lakh was found from a minister's house," Bommai said. He also said that Siddaramaiah would have been arrested had there been a strong Lokayukta in the state. "Siddaramaiah had weakened the Lokayukta instituti
