The women's wing of Congress staged a protest on Saturday outside BJP National President JP Nadda' residence over 'derogatory' remarks against Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha. Several Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress members including the wing's chief Amrita Dhawan were detained during the protest. "Smt @AmritaDhawan1 @DelhiPMC president and mahila members detained by @DelhiPolice for staging flash protest outside residence of BJP National President @JPNadda house against derogatory remarks against our leader @RahulGandhi Ji and not allowing him to speak in parliament by muting Mike," Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress tweeted. A senior police officer said that around 15 women were detained from Moti Lal Nehru Place. They were later released. Several Congress leaders on Friday alleged that proceedings in Lok Sabha were "muted" when they raised slogans demanding that Gandhi be allowed to speak. BJP trying to topple Delhi govt by offering money to MLAs, alleges AAP

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has alleged that the BJP, which has only eight MLAs in the Delhi Assembly, is trying to topple the Arvind Kejriwal government by offering money to legislators under the guise of a no-confidence motion. Addressing a press conference here, the AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is offering two options to his party MLAs -- they should either join the saffron party or the CBI-ED will put them in jail. The BJP is planning to bring a no-confidence motion against the Kejriwal government during the ongoing session of the Delhi Assembly. "The AAP has 62 MLAs with a thumping majority and the BJP has eight MLAs. But the BJP wants to topple the government by buying MLAs under the guise of a no-confidence motion, just like governments that fell from Madhya Pradesh to Maharashtra. Here are the options that the BJP is giving to our MLAs -- join the BJP or the CBI-ED will put you in jail," Chadha said. "The BJP has been losing

Modi to become PM for 3rd consecutive term in 2024, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the BJP-led NDA will form government again in 2024 and Narendra Modi will become prime minister for a third consecutive term. Participating the "India Today Conclave" here, Shah also said ever since the Modi government came to power, issues related to three hotspots -- Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast and Naxal -- were by and large resolved. Since a surgical strike was carried out against terrorists inside Pakistan, no foreign power dared to interfere in the internal affairs of the country, the home minister said. "People will decide who will be the next prime minister of the country. I have visited every part of the country and have realised that again the BJP will form the government and Modi will become the prime minister for a third consecutive term," he said. Shah said since the 1970s, this would be for the first time that a prime minister will get the people's mandate for the third consecutive term. Asked about the number of seats

Cong must smell political coffee after BJP's poll results in NE: Irani

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's comments in the UK did not come due to his concern over India but for his political legacy, Union minister Smriti Irani said on Friday, stressing that the opposition party should take a hint from the recent poll results in the northeast and "smell the political coffee". The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power on its own in Tripura and with its senior ally, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), in Nagaland. "Let us keep the 2014 and 2019 (Lok Sabha) elections aside. The Congress should take a hint from the recent poll results in the northeastern states of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya, where the BJP did fairly well, and smell the political coffee," the Union minister for women and child development and minority affairs said at the India Today Conclave here. Referring to Gandhi's "democracy-under-attack" remarks made during his recent visit to the United Kingdom, Irani said, "Democracy is not in peril in India, the Congress party ...

Akhilesh slams Centre for misusing central agencies, to meet Mamata today

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday slammed the BJP-led government at the Centre for misusing central agencies to "harass leaders and public representatives of opposition parties", who pose a threat to the saffron camp. Yadav, who is in the city to chair his party's two-day national executive, is scheduled to meet West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday evening. "The ED, CBI, and Income Tax are political weapons of the BJP. Here in Bengal, the instances are less. In Uttar Pradesh, several of our (SP) leaders, including MLAs, are in jail in false and fabricated cases," he told reporters after reaching Kolkata airport. "The BJP sends the ED and CBI to harass those opposition parties which threaten it," he said. Samajwadi Party is holding its two-day national executive in Kolkata from March 18 to discuss policies and strategies for the assembly election in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh later this year and the Lok Sabha poll in 2024,

Rahul's comments not a barometer of success or failure of democracy: BJP

The BJP on Thursday slammed Rahul Gandhi for claiming that whether he is permitted to speak in Parliament or not is a test of democracy, saying his comments cannot become the "barometer" of success or failure of democracy. Former Union minister and BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad accused Gandhi of making it a habit of seeking to derail and demean Indian democracy from foreign soils. At a press conference, he noted that the Congress leader did not deny making comments against the state of democracy in India and seeking the intervention of the US and Europe. Prasad said the BJP had posted the video of Gandhi's comments in Britain in which he urged foreign powers to take "notice" of the "falling standards" of democracy in India. The BJP will continue to campaign against the Congress leader, seeking his apology for insulting the country and its people, he said. The same democracy elected him to Lok Sabha from Wayanad and the Congress to power in Himachal Pradesh recently, he noted, ...

Rahul Gandhi speaking the language of anti-India forces, says Rijiju

The BJP on Thursday launched a fresh salvo on Rahul Gandhi for his democracy remark, with Union Law Minister and party leader Kiren Rijiju alleging that the Congress leader was speaking the language of anti-India forces and a "gang" which had conspired to defame India. Addressing a press conference here, Rijiju said people will question law makers if they don't condemn the act of a fellow MP and seek his apology on the floor of the House for the comments in London. "We speak in the interest of the public, but all the anti-India forces and gang have the same language and line. The language spoken by Rahul Gandhi is the same language spoken by those working against India, conspired against India. He will have to apologise in Parliament. It is our duty to seek his apology," he said. Responding to a question, the minister said if the Congress party feels there is nothing wrong in what he says then it does not deserve to represent the section of people in Parliament.
