BJP General Secretary in charge of Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll Ashwani Tyagi on Wednesday claimed that for the first time the entire 'Saifai family' has been forced to knock on the doors of voters here due to the fear of losing the seat. Attacking SP chief Akhlesh Yadav's tenure as the chief minister, Tyagi told PTI that the state was converted into a large industry of kidnapping, abduction, corruption, extortion and land grabbing and the future of the young generation was also spoiled. The bypoll on the Mainpuri seat which fell vacant following the death of SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav is slated for December 5. The BJP on Wednesday attacked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his "inaction" on the Yamuna cleaning and air pollution fronts despite "making promises" before every election. Despite being Delhi chief minister for 8 years Kejriwal has failed to clean the Yamuna while with the efforts of the Centre and Delhi LG , a 3 Km stretch of the river has now been cleaned in just 3.5 months, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia here said. The Yamuna has permissible limit of fecal coliform bacteria when it enters the city which rises to over 6.5 lakh/ 100 ml as the river leaves the city, he said. "This over 1,200 per cent more fecal coliform bacteria than the permissible limit of 2,500 per 100 ml endangers health of people in Delhi and also shows inaction of Kejriwal government," Bhatia said. The BJP leader also accused Kejriwal of "doing nothing" to clean Yamuna or control air pollution in the city despite making promises in AAP's manifestos elections after elections.

The Congress on Sunday released two lists of 39 candidates for the Gujarat Assembly elections, fielding Jignesh Mevani from the Vadgam constituency. The party first released its fifth list with six candidates including Manhar Patel from Botad in place of Ramesh Mer. Later in the evening, it released a list of 33 candidates, taking the total number of candidates declared so far to 142. A purported video of former Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat saying no work could be done in the state without paying commission has surfaced online. The undated video purportedly shows the BJP leader seated in a room and lamenting about "commissionkhori" in the state. An MP-MLA court here on Tuesday acquitted former Amethi MLA and BJP leader Garima Singh in a nearly five-year-old case of violation of the Model Code of Conduct. Special judge Yogesh Yadav acquitted Singh in the absence of adequate evidence, a prosecution lawyer said. The case was registered against Garima Singh in 2017 at the Amethi Kotwali police station. Inspector Ramakant Prasad, the then in-charge of Amethi Kotwali, had filed the case against the former MLA for putting up two BJP flags on a vehicle contrary to the norms in the 2017 assembly election campaign. Rajesh Singh, advocate of Garima Singh, said the prosecution did not produce any evidence in court, which acquitted her after the allegations were not proved. Garima Singh had surrendered in the court in October 2021 in connection with the case and was released on bail.
