Flight services hit due to heavy downpour, bad weather at Bengaluru Airport

Flight services were hit on Tuesday evening due to a heavy downpour and bad weather in Devanahalli on the city outskirts where the Kempegowda International Airport is located, airport authorities said. Eight domestic flights were diverted to Chennai while six departures were delayed, the airport officials told PTI. "Strong crosswinds and heavy rains with thunder and lightning impacted flight operations from 4.05 PM to 4.51 PM. Eight arriving domestic flights were diverted to Chennai and six departure flights were delayed, an airport official said. The official added that the normal operations have resumed. "Flights diverted to Chennai are being refueled and will return to Bengaluru shortly," she said. According to the Met department, the KIA in Devanahalli received 45.2 mm rainfall on Tuesday evening. Due to the heavy downpour, traffic was thrown out of gear and normal life was paralysed in Devanahalli. On the other hand, there was no rainfall in the central region of the city.

AAP releases manifesto for Karnataka Assembly elections in Bengaluru

The AAP on Wednesday released its manifesto for Karnataka polls giving 10 guarantees, which included 300 units of free electricity per month, 80 per cent reservation to locals in jobs, and 33 per cent reservation to women in government jobs if voted to power. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party, which is gearing up to contest all seats in Karnataka assembly polls, also promised that it will generate 2 lakh jobs every year and fill up all the vacant posts, with preference to regularisation of contractual staff. PM inaugurates new Metro line in Bengaluru, takes a ride with staff, worker

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the 13.71 km Whitefield (Kadugodi)-to-Krishnarajapuram Metro Line here, which has 12 stations, and was built at a cost of Rs 4,249 crore. He also took a ride on the Metro and interacted with people from different walks of life, including Bengaluru Metro rail staff, metro construction workers and students. The Prime Minister walked up to the ticket counter and then passed through the entry gate, as a common passenger would, to board the Metro train. Truecaller opens its first India office in Bengaluru, can host 250 staff

Caller ID verification platform Truecaller on Thursday announced the opening of its first exclusive office space outside of Sweden, in Bengaluru. The office was inaugurated virtually by Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship & Electronics and Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. A press release issued by the company said the Bengaluru facility occupies a renovated space of 30,443 square feet and can accommodate up to 250 employees, offering top-of-the-line technology and amenities. Truecaller plans to use this facility as its primary hub to deliver India-first features and serve users globally, it said. Bengaluru honoured with $150,000 global award for tobacco control efforts

Bengaluru is among five global cities that have been recognised for achievements in preventing noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and injuries, with the Indian tech city's efforts in tobacco control winning a USD 150,000 award by a leading global initiative supported by the WHO. Bengaluru was honoured on Wednesday with the 2023 Partnership for Healthy Cities Award, along with Montevideo in Uruguay; Mexico City, Mexico; Vancouver, Canada and Athens, Greece, at the inaugural Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit held in London, a statement by the World Health Organisation (WHO) said. Lucknow-bound flight makes emergency landing after takeoff from Bengaluru

A Lucknow-bound AIX Connect flight from Bengaluru made an emergency landing at the Kempegowda International Airport here 10 minutes after its takeoff due to a technical issue on Saturday, Air Asia authorities said. According to information received, the flight i5-2472 took off at about 6.45 AM on Saturday and was supposed to land by 9 AM in Lucknow. However, it was grounded minutes after the takeoff. "AIX Connect confirms that i5-2472, scheduled to operate from Bengaluru to Lucknow, encountered a minor technical issue and elected to return to Bengaluru," the AIX Connect spokesperson said. "Alternative arrangements have been made for impacted guests and we are taking steps to minimise impact on other scheduled operations," the spokesperson added.
