Indian automobile industry looks to sustain growth momentum in 2023

The Indian automobile industry is setting out on a journey with hopes for a sustained growth momentum in 2023 and further embracing clean technology amid the lurking speed breakers of rising interest rates and cost increases due to new emission and safety norms, having witnessed a strong comeback from the COVID-led downturn this year. While the passenger vehicles (PV) segment is set for record sales in 2022 despite the lingering effects of supply chain constraints and semiconductor shortages, the two-wheeler space is yet to see sustained sales buoyancy after having suffered for most of the year. According to industry estimates, PV sales can reach around 38 lakh units this year. Maruti Suzuki recalls 9,125 vehicles to fix possible defects in seat belts

Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday said it is recalling 9,125 units of its models Ciaz, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Grand Vitara to fix possible defects in a part of the front row seat belts. The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 2-28, 2022, Maruti Suzuki India said in a regulatory filing. "It is suspected that there is a possible defect in one of the child parts of shoulder height adjuster assembly of front row seat belts, which in a rare case, may lead to seat belt disassembly," it said. The company said it has decided to recall the suspected vehicles for inspection and replacement of the faulty part, free of cost. "Affected vehicle owners will be receiving communication from the company's authorised workshops for immediate attention," it said.

Tata Motors total wholesales rise 21% to 75,478 units in November

Tata Motors on Thursday said its total wholesales increased by 21 per cent to 75,478 units in November. The company had dispatched 62,192 units in November 2021. The auto major said its total sales in the domestic market stood at 73,467 units last month, up 27 per cent, as compared to 58,073 units in the year-ago period. Commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market fell 10 per cent to 29,053 units, from 32,245 units in November 2021, it added. Last month, the company's total passenger vehicle dispatches rose 55 per cent to 46,037 units as against 29,778 units in the year-ago period.

Kia India records 69% increase in total sales at 24,025 units in Nov

Kia India on Thursday reported a 69 per cent rise in total sales at 24,025 units in November this year. The company had sold 14,214 units in the same month last year, Kia India said in a statement. Flagship SUV Seltos led the sales with 9,284 vehicles with Sonet, Carens, and the Carnival recorded sales of 7,834, 6,360 and 419 units, respectively last month, it added. Kia India said it also delivered 128 units of EV6 in the domestic market, taking the total EV6 deliveries to 296 units. The company has been able to post healthy sales figures throughout this year due to improved customer sentiment and pent-up demand, Kia India Vice President and Head of Sales & Marketing Hardeep Singh Brar said. The commencement of the third shift at the company's Anantapur Plant earlier this year and gradually improving supply chain has also helped streamline the delivery period and meet customer expectations, he added. "However, we will remain observant of dynamic market conditions," Brar added.

Hyundai reports 36% increase in total sales in Nov to 64,004 units

Hyundai Motor India on Thursday reported 36 per cent increase in total sales at 64,004 units for November 2022. The company had dispatched 46,910 units to dealers in the same month last year. Domestic sales were up 30 per cent to 48,003 units as against 37,001 units in November last year, the company said in a statement. Exports increased 61 per cent to 16,001 units as compared with 9,909 units in the year-ago period, it added. Hyundai Motor India Director (Sales, Marketing & Service) Tarun Garg said the company is well poised to achieve its highest ever domestic sales in 2022.

Ashok Leyland reports 39% increase in sales to 14,561 units in Nov

Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Thursday reported 39 per cent increase in total commercial vehicle sales at 14,561 units in November 2022. The company had dispatched 10,480 units to its dealers in the same month last year, Ashok Leyland said in a statement. Domestic sales were up 46 per cent at 13,654 units, against 9,364 units in November 2021, it added.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor reports 10% decline in sales in Nov to 11,765

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Thursday said its wholesales declined by 10 per cent to 11,765 units in November 2022. The company had sold 13,003 units in the domestic market in the year-ago period. TKM has discontinued compact SUV Urban Cruiser and also paused bookings for diesel version of Innova which impacted its overall dispatches last month, a company statement said.

Bajaj Auto total sales in November decline 19% YoY to 306,552 units

Bajaj Auto on Thursday reported a 19 per cent decline in total sales at 3,06,552 units in November, compared to 3,79,276 units in the same month a year ago. Total sales in the domestic market stood at 1,52,716, down 4 per cent from 1,58,755 units in the same month last year, the company said in a regulatory filing. Bajaj Auto said its exports last month were down 30 per cent at 1,53,836 units, as against 2,20,521 units in the same month last year.

Aided by festive demand, PV wholesales up 29% to 291,113 units in Oct: SIAM

Passenger vehicle wholesales in India rose 29 per cent to 2,91,113 units in October aided by robust demand in the festive season, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said on Friday. Total passenger vehicle dispatches from companies to dealers were 2,26,353 units in October 2021. Total two-wheeler dispatches last month increased 2 per cent to 15,77,694 units as compared to October 2021. "Good market sentiments coupled with festive boost, resulted in higher sales in October, especially for passenger vehicles," SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal said. Higher inflation and rising interest rates have impacted the rural market more, thereby returning marginal growth of the two-wheeler segment, he added. Skoda Auto India wholesales rise 11% to to 3,389 units in October

Skoda Auto India on Tuesday said its wholesales increased 11 per cent to 3,389 units last month as compared with 3,065 units in October last year. The automaker also reported retail sales of 4,173 units last month, up 29 per cent from 3,226 units in October last year. "The full five-stars in adult and child occupancy under the newer and stricter global NCAP crash test protocols is an extremely important and proud landmark for us. The Kushaq has set new benchmarks for safety, and is the safest car made-in-India. This is positively impacting our sales," Skoda Auto India Brand Director Petr Solc said in a statement. Kia India reports increase in wholesales by 43% in October to 23,323 units

Kia India on Tuesday said its wholesales increased 43 per cent year-on-year to 23,323 units in October. The automaker had dispatched 16,331 units to dealers in October 2021. The company dispatched 9,777 units of Seltos, 7,614 units of Sonet, 5,479 units of Carens and 301 units of Carnival to the dealers last month. "The demand that all Kia products have managed to generate in the Indian market signifies exciting times for the brand. It tells us that our product strategy was right on point since the very beginning," Kia India Vice President and Head of Sales & Marketing Hardeep Singh Brar said in a statement. The company has already crossed the 2-lakh cumulative sales mark in 2022 and with two months still remaining, the automaker is confident of ending the year on an unprecedented high, he added. With consistent strong sales for successive months throughout the year, Kia India has truly established itself as a force to reckon with in the Indian automobile industry, Brar stated.
