More than 1.3 million electric vehicles registered in country: Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said more than 13 lakh electric vehicles are registered in the country. This figure excludes the data of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep, the Road Transport and Highways minister said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Gadkari said under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) Phase-II scheme, 2,877 public EV charging stations have been sanctioned in 68 cities and 1,576 EV charging stations across 9 expressways and 16 highways. "The number of electric vehicles in the country is 13,34,385 (excluding data of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep, which is not available in VAHAN 4) as on 14-07-2022 and a total of 2,826 public charging stations are operational in the country, as per the Bureau of Energy Efficiency," he said. Maruti Suzuki India eyes leadership position in SUV segment, says MD

Maruti Suzuki India is eyeing a leadership position in the SUV segment as it continues to add new products across various sub segments, a top company official said on Wednesday. The country's largest carmaker has bolstered its presence in the high volume entry and mid level SUV segments with new Brezza and all new model -- Grand Vitara. "In every segment except SUV, we are the market leader by a distance. It is only in the SUV that we are behind, so we need to catch up. Police here booked two directors of a luxury car showroom for fraudulently taking loan worth crores of rupees using three luxury cars. According to the complaint filed by Jeebu Joseph, branch manager of The South Indian Bank Limited, Gurgaon Sector 23 that Zenica Cars India Pvt. Ltd, located on Golf Course road and an authorised dealer of Audi cars are enjoying three car loans from our branch under one banking arrangement. All three loans were disbursed in 2017. Rashpal Singh Todd and Mandhir Singh, the directors of the borrower company had joined the documents as guarantors to all the three loans. However, the account was classified as non performing asset (NPA) in 2018, it said. Hyundai Motor India's total sales rise 14% in June; exports rise 17.2%

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Friday reported a 14.5 per cent increase in its total sales at 62,351 units in June. The company had sold a total of 54,474 units in the same month last year, HMIL said in a statement. Domestic sales stood at 49,001 units last month as compared with 40,496 units in June last year, a growth of 21 per cent, it added. Exports stood at 13,350 units as against 13,978 units in the year-ago month, down 4.5 per cent. "With the semiconductor situation showing signs of easing out, the sales numbers have again started showing a positive trend," HMIL Director (Sales, Marketing and Service) Tarun Garg said. Further, he said, the newly launched Hyundai Venue has also received good customer response.

Kia Sonet surpasses cumulative sales milestone of 150,000 units in 2 years

Automaker Kia India on Monday said its compact SUV Kia Sonet has crossed the cumulative sales milestone of 1.5 lakh units since launch in September 2020. The model has contributed over 32 per cent of the company's total sales and commands almost 15 per cent share in the highly competitive compact SUV category, Kia India said in a statement. "The Sonet has won several accolades not only for its design, performance, and practicality but also by creating favourability for iMT (intelligent manual transmission) and introducing the only Diesel AT in the segment," Kia India Chief Sales Officer Myung-sik Sohn said. In April this year, he said, "We added four airbags as standard across even the lower variants of Sonet, further enhancing the vehicle's safety and propelling its popularity."
