Tata Motors on Thursday said its total sales increased by 36 per cent to 78,843 units in August. The auto major had sold 57,995 units in the same month of the previous year. Its total domestic sales increased by 41 cent to 76,479 units in August. The company had dispatched 54,190 units in August 2021. Passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market stood at 47,166 units last month, as against 28,018 units in August 2021, an increase of 68 per cent. Commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market were at 29,313 units last month, as compared to 26,172 units in the same month last year, an increase of 12 per cent, it added.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Friday reported 14 per cent growth in its domestic sales to 7,487 units in December 2020. The car maker had sold 6,544 vehicles in December 2019. "As we wrap up the year, we are happy to have registered a 14 per cent growth in wholesales in December 2020, when compared to sales in the same period in 2019," said Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM). He said customer orders have been rising significantly and retail sales (dealer's sale to customers) have also been very encouraging which gives the company confidence to embark upon a new target as it welcomes the New Year 2021. "We have also managed to retain more than 6 per cent growth in wholesales in the last quarter of calendar year 2020, when compared to the last quarter of 2019," he added. With festive season round the corner, domestic sales of passenger vehicles- cars, utility vehicles and vans-surged by 14 per cent in August as dealers built inventory. The industry is estimated to have sold almost 290,000 vehicles last month with double digit growth from market leader Maruti Suzuki besides Honda and Tata Motors. Hyundai, the second biggest player grew at nine per cent. July sales had grown 15 per cent. Maruti, which now commands a 50 per cent share in domestic market, sold 151,270 units to dealers last month against 119,906 units in August last month. Sales of compact segment vehicles (Swift, Baleno, etc) rose 62.4 per cent to 74,012 units while utility vehicle (Brezza, Ertiga, etc) clocked growth of 27.6 per cent. The mini (Alto, WagonR) segment, however, remained flat at 35,428 vehicles.
