Coronavirus pandemic: Assam logs 294 new cases and five deaths

Assam on Thursday reported 294 new COVID-19 cases, 21 less than the previous day's figure, pushing the tally to 7,22,977, according to a bulletin issued by the National Health Mission. Five fresh fatalities raised the death toll to 6,590 while 1,347 COVID patients have died due to other causes. Altogether 30,008 samples were tested for coronavirus during the day and the positivity rate is 0.98 per cent. The North-eastern state has so far tested 2,81,43,320 samples. Polling for 80 municipal boards in Assam on March 6; counting on March 9

The Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) of Assam on Wednesday announced that polling to 80 municipal boards across the state will be held on March 6 and votes will be counted three days later. Addressing a press conference, State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said the polling will be conducted through electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the first time in the history of civic elections in Assam. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ASEC banned roadshows, rallies and processions related to campaigns till February 15 as per the guidelines of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority. Door-to-door campaigning is allowed with a maximum of 15 persons. "The model code of conduct comes into force with the announcement of the poll date," Kumar said.
