Depression to cross coast between TN, AP around Chennai this evening: IMD

The depression over Bay of Bengal will cross the coast between north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh this evening and the city would witness "strong" winds up to 45 km, the weather office here said on Thursday. Districts in northern Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Kancheepuram and Villpuram are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, S Balachandran said, even as the city and its suburbs received sharp showers all through the night. The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 21 kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 5.30 AM on Thursday over southwest Bay of Bengal, about 170 km east-southeast of Chennai and 170 km east of Puducherry, the India Meteorological Department said in a bulletin. Andhra Pradesh records 320 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours

: Andhra Pradesh's COVID-19 tally went up to 20,68,241 as 320 fresh cases were added in 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday. The gross recoveries crossed the 20.50 lakh mark to 20,50,386 after 425 infected persons got cured in a day, a health department bulletin said. Five more persons succumbed to the infection, taking the total toll to 14,397. The number of active cases slid to 3,458, the bulletin added. In 24 hours, Chittoor reported 67, Krishna 41, West Godavari 39, Visakhapatnam 36, Guntur 32 and East Godavari 31 fresh cases. The remaining seven districts added less than 20 new cases each, with Anantapuramu reporting the lowest of four. Guntur district reported two, Krishna, Prakasam and Visakhapatnam districts one more Covid-19 death each in a day.

AP reports 400 fresh Coronavirus cases and 4 deaths in past 24 hours

Andhra Pradesh on Sunday reported 400 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 20,63,577, while the toll climbed to 14,343 with four more deaths. With 516 people being cured, the total recoveries stood at 20,44,132, leaving 5,102 active cases. Chittoor district accounted for the highest number of new cases with 73 followed by Kirshna at 68, a state government bulletin said, providing details during the last 24 hours ending 9 AM today. Chittoor district topped the chart with 963 active cases followed by East Godavari 852. Nearly 37,000 samples were examined today and cumulatively more than 2.92 crore samples have been tested.

Cyclone Gulab likely to cross Andhra, Odisha coasts by midnight, says IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday informed that 'Cyclone Gulab' is likely to move westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha as a cyclonic storm by today midnight."Gulab is likely to move nearly westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur as a cyclonic storm by midnight today. The landfall process will commence from the evening of today," tweeted the IMD.Earlier in the day, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chaired a virtual meeting in Delhi to review the preparedness of 'Cyclone Gulab'.Addressing the media, Patnaik said, "Today I held a virtual meeting with the chief secretary and district collectors of Odisha to discuss the precautionary measure to be taken against 'Cyclone Gulab' in the state.
