Oppn slams Amul's entry in Karnataka, calls it attemp to finish off Nandini

A political slugfest broke out between the ruling BJP, and opposition Congress and JD(S) on Saturday over the "threat" to Karnataka Milk Federation's famed dairy brand 'Nandini' following Amul's entry to the state. Three days ago, Gujarat-based cooperative society Amul tweeted: "A new wave of freshness with milk and curd is coming to Bengaluru. More information coming soon. #LaunchAlert. From Kengeri to Whitefield, wishing everyone a Taaza day." In another tweet, the dairy brand said, "The #Amul family is bringing in some Taaza into #Bengaluru city. More updates coming in soon. #LaunchAlert. Taaza arriving soon in Bengaluru." While the opposition parties have charged that the BJP government was out to finish Nandini, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the government is clear on the issue of Amul. Accusing Congress of politicising Amul's entry to Karnataka, Bommai said: "We have absolute clarity with regard to Amul. Nandini is a national brand. It's not restricted to Karnataka. We

Milk prices increased due to rise in fodder cost: Union minister Balyan

Milk prices in the country have risen due to increase in the feed and fodder cost, Union Minister Sanjeev Kumar Balyan said in Rajya Sabha on Friday. Balyan, who is Minister of State of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, said dairy companies pass on 75 per cent of the retail price to farmers. There is a need to balance between farmers and consumers. Farmers need to get higher returns on milk for them to take up dairy farming, he said. In the recent time, there has been increase in the prices of feed and fodder due to which prices of milk have gone up. If fodder rates come down, automatically milk prices will also decline, the minister added. Replying to another supplementary question, Balyan said three private firms are conducting trial of a vaccine developed by Hisar-based ICAR institute for the control of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in cattle. "The trial is underway. I am hopeful after the trial, the vaccine will be commercialised soon," he added. Milk prices have been hike

No merger of Karnataka's dairy brand Nandini with Amul: CM Bommai

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday ruled out the merger of Karnataka's popular dairy brand Nandini with Amul after a row broke out over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments on the state's milk cooperative. He was replying to a query on Congress state president D K Shivakumar's apprehension that Nandini could be merged with Gujarat's Amul based on Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah's visit to Nandini's facility in Mandya. Bommai said Nandini will always maintain its separate identity in "the coming hundreds of years". "The merger of Nandini with Amul is a wrong imagination. What to say about those who comment on based on their whims and fancies?" the Chief Minister told reporters here. Shah had clearly said that Nandini and Amul to cooperate in the area of technology and marketing, Bommai added. "Shah had said these two big companies should complement each other but that does not mean there should be a merger. The Nandini brand will remain as a separa
