G20 education working group three-day meeting concludes in Amritsar

A three-day G20 meeting on education concluded here on Friday with the delegates dwelling on creating a tech-enabled learning environment to promote equal opportunities, maintain quality standards, and encourage global collaboration across all levels of education. More than 55 delegates from the G20 countries, guest countries, and invited organisations such as UNICEF participated in the event which began on Wednesday. During his closing remarks on the event's last day, India chair and secretary, higher education, K Sanjay Murthy highlighted the importance of the community's involvement in student education and the urgency of greater collaboration and partnership. Radical preacher Amritpal Singh's supporters clash with police in Amritsar

The supporters of Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh Thursday clashed with police and stormed into a police complex in Punjab's Amritsar district, protesting against the arrest of one of his associates. Police had booked Singh and his supporters for allegedly kidnapping a man. Carrying swords and other arms, scores of supporters led by Singh had assembled at the police station in Ajnala in Amritsar. They broke the barricades put up by police. Heavy security arrangements were made at the police station as the protesters began a dharna in the complex. A case was registered against Singh, a self-styled preacher, and his supporters for allegedly kidnapping and thrashing Varinder Singh, a resident of Chamkaur Sahib in Rupnagar district. Drone shot by BSF along Punjab border in Amritsar, falls on Pakistan side

A Pakistan drone that entered India from along the International Border in Punjab was intercepted by BSF troops following which it fell on the other side, a senior officer said Wednesday. The drone was "downed" by Border Security Force (BSF) troops around 7:20 pm on Tuesday and it has been taken away by Pakistan Rangers, he said. The incident took place near the Daoke border post in Amritsar. It was found lying 20 metres inside Pakistan territory opposite Indian border post Bharopal when a search was conducted on Wednesday morning, a BSF spokesperson said. "It hovered in the sky for a few minutes when counter-drone measures were taken, and fell while returning.Search is in progress to find if it dropped anything on the Indian side, he said.

4.1 magnitude earthquake hits Amritsar: National Center for Seismology

An earthquake of 4.1 magnitude was felt across Punjab's Amritsar on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, informed National Center for Seismology (NCS).The tremors were felt at around 3:42 AM.The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said, "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.1, Occurred on 14-11-2022, 03:42:27 IST, Lat: 31.95 & Long: 73.38, Depth: 120 Km, Location: 145km WNW of Amritsar, Punjab."Earlier on Saturday evening, an earthquake rocked Delhi-NCR. The tremors were felt at around 8 pm.The National Center for Seismology (NCS) said an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred in Nepal, at around 7:57 pm on Saturday. "The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground," it had said.

Pro-Khalistan slogans were raised by supporters of radical Sikh outfits as well as that of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) at the Golden Temple on the 38th anniversary of Operation Bluestar. The marbled premises of the Golden Temple near Akal Takht, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs, echoed with pro-Khalistan slogans.
