9 airports operating under PPP model to log 50% growth in revenue: Report

Nine airports operating under the PPP model in the country are expected to log a 50 per cent growth in their aggregate revenue at Rs 9,650 crore this fiscal from Rs 6,450 crore in the last fiscal, a report said on Wednesday. The estimated growth in revenue, according to the credit rating agency CareEdge Ratings, will come on the back of an anticipated 70 per cent year-on-year surge in passenger traffic, which is likely to reach 93 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in the current financial year. However, on an overall basis passenger traffic is expected to surpass the pre-Covid level by 1.12 times in the fiscal year starting April 2023, it said. The rating agency also believes a further delay in the airport privatisation and the government's plan to exit its stake from joint venture airports. "CareEdge Ratings has assessed the aggregate financial position of nine PPP airports which represent 50 per cent of total India's passenger traffic. The aggregate revenues of these airports are .

India's move to carry RT-PCR tests unlikely to disrupt holiday travel plans

India's move to conduct RT-PCR test on a limited scale on passengers arriving from abroad has raised concerns among travellers but it's unlikely to have disruptive impact on the travel plans of most holidaymakers, including from the diaspora, the community members said on Sunday. The Indian government on Saturday ramped up anti-Covid measures in the wake of a surge in the number of cases in some countries including neighbouring China and made the RT-PCR test mandatory for passengers arriving from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand. With the reduction in cases and more widespread vaccination, India had discontinued mandatory RT-PCR tests for international passengers by November. From Saturday, random coronavirus testing of international passengers started at airports including those in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Indore and Goa under new guidelines that require testing of two per cent of the passengers arriving in each international .

Airport project will hit agriculture, rural economy, say farmers to TN govt

Acquisition of land in their villages, for setting up a greenfield airport at Parandur, would lead to 'destruction' of agriculture and eliminate the region's 'self-reliant' economy, farmers opposing the project in their backyard said in a representation to the Tamil Nadu government. The project area covers 'bird migration routes' and it is closer to INS Rajali Naval Air Station and hence not suitable for airport, they said. The flow of water of a natural water channel, that carries surplus flood waters to Kosasthalai river, would be prevented leading to inundation of 30 surrounding villages and 'incalculable farm and economic losses' considering flooding. The project would lead to complete displacement of people in five villages, including the ancient Ekanapuram village. "We will be left with grief and pain," as there will be no suitable livelihood opportunities elsewhere, they said. Listing out several such factors against setting up the airport in their neighbourhood, farmers of
