Skye Air Mobility comes out with unmanned air traffic management system

Drone delivery company Skye Air Mobility has come out with an unmanned air traffic management system that will provide situational awareness, autonomous navigation and risk assessment to all drone and other aerial mobility operators. The system -- Skye UTM -- was unveiled by Union Minister for Road and Highways, Nitin Gadkari here on Tuesday. A cloud-based aerial traffic management system that stitches unmanned air traffic with the manned aviation airspace, Skye UTM has supported more than 300 successful BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) drone flights till now, a release said on Wednesday. "Skye UTM captures more than 255+ parameters of UAV movements and stores them into its 'Blackbox', which is a published systematic description of the entire flight. "The platform offers the first 3-Dimensional view of the drone airspace along with operations and regulations mapping servers, which offer the latest airspace status, verified paths, and display real-time UAV movements," it added.

Domestic air passenger volume rises 3% to 23.4 million in November: Icra

Domestic air passenger volume increased 3 per cent to 23.4 million in November on a sequential basis propelled by resilient travel demand and onset of the peak holiday season, credit ratings agency Icra said on Thursday. However, it remained 7 per cent lower compared to the corresponding month of the pre-pandemic period, it said. On a year-on-year basis, passenger traffic grew 13 per cent in the previous month, as per Icra. Post resumption of international commercial operations from March 27, international air passenger traffic has steadily increased and reached 81 per cent of pre-Covid levels in November, at 4.9 million in the month, growing 3 per cent sequentially, it stated. Amid growing air traffic in India, pilots experience increased fatigue

Amid the country's growing air traffic and expanding aircraft fleet, fatigue among pilots seems to be a dark cloud with senior captains and pilots' groupings stressing on the need for more serious efforts to address the concerns. While regulations on flight duty time limitations and specific rest periods are in place, a more scientific approach as well as a better fatigue reporting system will help in tackling the "silent danger of fatigue", according to the senior captains. In signs that fatigue is a worrying factor for the fast growing Indian aviation space, a recent survey of 542 pilots by NGO Safety Matters Foundation showed that majority of them admitted to falling asleep without planning/ consent of the other crew or experienced micro sleep. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) -- a global grouping of airlines, including from India -- said fatigue has long been identified as a potential safety risk and the industry has developed extensive Standards and Recommende
