Single-seater trainer aircraft crashes in Pune, woman pilot injured

A single-seater trainer aircraft crashed in Maharashtra's Pune district on Monday and its woman pilot suffered injuries, police said. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has has commenced an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated on Twitter. "The trainee aircraft crash in Indapur, Pune District is unfortunate. No fatalities have been reported. Praying for the recovery of injured pilot, Ms Bhavika Rathod," the minister added. The incident took place at Kadbanwadi in Indapur tehsil around 11.30 am, a police official said. The aircraft, belonging to a private aviation school, had taken off from Baramati airport in Pune, he said. Rathod received minor injuries and was admitted to a hospital for treatment, the official said. The aircraft was damaged, he added.

Delhi saw 2,300 accidents in first 5 months of 2022; 505 killed: Data

Delhi witnessed 2,300 accidents in which over 500 people lost lives in the first five months of 2022, according to official data. Out of these, 495 were fatal accidents, 1,762 simple accidents and 43 non-injury accidents. The data, which gave traffic district-wise information, also stated that 2,152 people got injured during the period. A total of 505 people have been killed in the accidents, with the maximum number of deaths (56) reported in the outer north district followed by 50 deaths in northwest district, 46 in southwest and 45 in west district, it stated. The least number of deaths (16) was reported in Shahdara, 19 in central district and 21 deaths in New Delhi, Rohini and south districts, respectively, it stated. The southeast district in Delhi saw the maximum number of accidents at 222, followed by southwest 192, outer north 191 and west district 186 accidents. Delhi: 4 killed after container-truck overturns, falls on autorickshaw

Four people were killed after a container-truck overturned and fell on their autorickshaw near the IGI stadium in central Delhi on Saturday, police said. The bodies have been retrieved from the mangled remains of the autorickshaw, they said. Two of the deceased have been identified as Surrender Kumar Yadav, a resident of Shastri Park, and his nephew Jai Kishore, police said. The identity of the others is being ascertained, they said, adding that the truck's driver and his helper fled the spot after the accident, which was reported by a police patrol team around 6:50 am. The big truck overturned on the Ring Road in front of Gate-16 of the stadium, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said. People were deployed to cut through the mangled remains of the autorickshaw to recover the bodies.These were sent to the LNJP hospital, she said. Nearly 48,000 people died in accidents on national highways in 2020

A total of 47,984 people died due to road accidents on National Highways, including on expressways, during calendar year 2020, Parliament was informed on Thursday. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said as many as 53,872 persons died due to road accidents on National Highways, including on expressways, in 2019. Gadkari said the major causes of accidents on the National Highways (NHs) are vehicle design and condition, road engineering, over-speeding, drunken driving/ consumption of alcohol & drug, driving on wrong side, jumping the red light, use of mobile phone, etc. He also said the ministry has issued guidelines for improving the road safety through road safety audits at all stages (design stage, construction stage and O&M stage) by engaging independent road safety experts. Replying to a separate question, Gadkari said during the oxygen crisis in March-April 2021, shortage of technically qualified trained drivers .
