At closing bell, the benchmark Hang Seng Index dropped 335.96 points, or 1.72%, to 19,203.91. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index declined 77.39 points, or 1.18%, to 6,482.47.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average index was down 218.87 points, or 0.8%, to finish at 27,010.61. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 23.02 points, or 1.17%, to 1,937.10.


Japan Nikkei tumbles on fears of financial crisis


At close of trade, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index was down 1.12%, or 36.42 points, to 3,226.89. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, dropped 1.53%, or 31.78 points, to 2,049.48. The blue-chip CSI300 index declined 1.2%, or 47.75 points, to 3,939.15.


China Market falls on global banking crisis woes


The frontline indices ended with minor gains after a volatile session on Thursday, snapping a five-day losing streak. Trading was volatile due to expiry of weekly index options on the NSE. The Nifty settled above the 16,950 mark after hitting the day's low of 16,850.15 in morning trade. Media, FMCG and realty stocks were in demand. On the flip side, metal, IT and private bank shares declined.
