CWG 2022 Day-2 Highlights: Chanu clinches gold; Bindyarani gets silver

Commonwealth Games 2022 Highlights Day 2: Mirabai Chanu extended her lead by lifting 88kg in the women's weightlifting finals. Bindyarani Devi, Gururaja Poojary, Sanket Sargar also clinched medals.

CWG Birmingham 2022 Highlights

Mirabai Chanu, Indian woman weightlifter has successfully clinched a Gold medal for India while Indian weightlifter Sanket Mahadev Sargar on Saturday won a silver medal in men's 55kg category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The 21-year-old, hailing from Sangli in Maharashtra, managed a total lift of 248kg (113kg in snatch and 135 kg in clean & jerk) to open India's account in the ongoing multi-nation event.Meanwhile, Bindyarani Devi, too in the later part of Day 2 managed to win a silver medal in the 55kg women's weightlifting category. 

The Indian shuttlers, peddlers and Squash players, who performed brilliantly on Day 1 of the event will be in action once again on Day 2 as well. The Indian Women's Table Tennis team defeated Guyana in the morning session and then played the Quarterfinals in the evening against Malaysia where they were defeated in a very close battle. The Men's team faced Northern Ireland and having won both their previous matches in the group, comfrtably made it a clean sweep.
 
The Indian Badminton Mixed team beat Sri Lanka and Australia in the group stages to advance to further rounds.
 
14 years old Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh's went down fighting valiantly today in their respective Squash events. Saurav Ghosal, however, comfortably cruised passed his opponent. 

The Indian Women's Hockey team, which beat Ghana 5-0 in their first game, faced Wales tonight and sealed yet another victory (3-1)

In Boxing, India's Olympic bronze medal winner Lovlina Borgohain also successfully won her bout against New Zealand's Nicholson. Apart from her, boxers Mohd Hussamuddin and Sanjeet were also in ACTION. Hussamuddin breezed passed his opponent while Sanjeet Kumar was knocked out of the match in a split decision.
