Broadcaster Viacom18 bags Women's IPL five-year media rights for Rs 951 cr

Attention shifts to auction for five teams in the Women's IPL on January 25; bids accepted till Jan 23

Top broadcasters Disney-Star, Sony-Zee and Viacom18 were in the fray for the rights.

Reliance-backed Viacom18 has secured the Women’s Indian Premier League (WIPL) media rights for five years (2023-27) at an auction on Monday. 

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah tweeted that Viacom18  had committed ~951 crore for five years, translating into a per-match value of Rs 7.09 crore.
Disney Star was the other broadcaster to place a bid, said executives at the cricketing body.

However, Disney Star’s bid amount could not be ascertained immediately. Sony-Zee opted to stay out of Monday’s auction.
