No amount of alcohol 'safe', even low consumption hikes cancer risk: WHO

The agency has previously found that alcohol causes at least 7 types of cancer, including the most common cancer types, such as bowel cancer and female breast cancer

There is no "safe" amount of alcohol for consumption and it can lead to at least 7 types of cancer, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). In a statement published in The Lancet Public Health journal, the agency said there is no evidence of any threshold where the carcinogenic effects of alcohol start. Even a small amount can lead to a rise in the risk of getting cancer. 

A safe level of alcohol consumption can only be defined if there is scientific evidence to prove that at or below the level, there is "no risk of illness or injury,"
